Inches to cm for kameez measurements: a quick table
Inches to cm for kameez measurements: ready-made tables for bust, waist and hips, kameez and trouser lengths, sleeves and shoulders, plus the fractions on a tape.
InspirationInches to cm for kameez measurements, in one line
One inch is exactly 2.54 centimetres, so to turn inches into centimetres you multiply by 2.54, and to go the other way you divide. For kameez measurements, rounding the answer to the nearest half centimetre is precise enough. The tables below give the common values ready worked out, so you can check a conversion at a glance.
Our quote form accepts either unit, so the simplest route is still to measure in whichever unit your tape shows most clearly and send it as it is. Conversion helps when you are comparing your numbers with a size chart, a brand label or a garment that was measured in the other unit. For reading the tape and avoiding mixed units, see measuring in inches or centimetres.
Bust, waist and hips
Rounded to the nearest half centimetre. For an odd number, take the value between its neighbours: 37 inches sits between 91.5 and 96.5, at 94 cm.
- 28 in = 71 cm; 30 in = 76 cm
- 32 in = 81.5 cm; 34 in = 86.5 cm
- 36 in = 91.5 cm; 38 in = 96.5 cm
- 40 in = 101.5 cm; 42 in = 106.5 cm
- 44 in = 112 cm; 46 in = 117 cm
- 48 in = 122 cm; 50 in = 127 cm
- 52 in = 132 cm; 54 in = 137 cm
Kameez, kurta and trouser lengths
Lengths are where a conversion slip shows most, because a kameez that is a few centimetres out lands somewhere quite different on the leg.
- Short kurta: 30 in = 76 cm; 32 in = 81.5 cm
- Knee-length kameez: 38 in = 96.5 cm; 40 in = 101.5 cm; 42 in = 106.5 cm
- Calf-length kameez: 44 in = 112 cm; 46 in = 117 cm; 48 in = 122 cm
- Trouser length: 36 in = 91.5 cm; 38 in = 96.5 cm; 40 in = 101.5 cm
- Maxi dress: 54 in = 137 cm; 56 in = 142 cm; 58 in = 147.5 cm
Shoulders, sleeves, armholes and cuffs
These are smaller numbers, so even a small rounding error is a bigger share of the whole. Keep the half centimetres.
- Shoulder: 13 in = 33 cm; 14 in = 35.5 cm; 15 in = 38 cm; 16 in = 40.5 cm
- Armhole: 16 in = 40.5 cm; 18 in = 45.5 cm; 20 in = 51 cm
- Three-quarter sleeve: 16 in = 40.5 cm; 18 in = 45.5 cm
- Full sleeve: 22 in = 56 cm; 23 in = 58.5 cm; 24 in = 61 cm
- Wrist or cuff: 6 in = 15 cm; 7 in = 18 cm; 8 in = 20.5 cm
The small marks on an inch tape
Inch tapes are divided into halves, quarters and eighths, and those fractions are easy to misread. A quarter inch is about 0.6 cm, a half inch about 1.3 cm and three quarters about 1.9 cm. When you write an inch measurement down, use decimals rather than fractions: 34.5 rather than 34½, and 15.25 rather than 15¼. A fraction typed into a form is easy to drop by accident, and a stray half inch on the bust is more than a centimetre once it is converted.
Centimetre tapes have millimetre marks, but you do not need that level of detail. The nearest half centimetre is plenty for any measurement on our size guide.
Sizes are not the same as measurements
A size chart in centimetres from one brand and a dress size in inches from another rarely line up, because each label is based on its own idea of a body. That is why made-to-measure works from your own numbers rather than a size. If you would still rather start from a size, our size guide lists body measurements for each UK size in centimetres, and the article on UK, EU and US dress sizes explains why sizes differ.
Customers in the USA tend to think in inches and customers in Germany in centimetres, and both work equally well for us. Whichever you use, write the unit next to every number.
Ready to send your numbers?
Enter them on the quote form in the unit you measured in, and add any extra measurements in the notes. Measurements and design details are agreed in writing before anything is cut, so if a number looks unusual we ask rather than guess. The custom stitching page explains the rest of the process.
Common questions
How do I convert kameez measurements from inches to centimetres?
Multiply the number of inches by 2.54 and round to the nearest half centimetre. For example, a 36 inch bust is 91.5 cm and a 40 inch kameez length is 101.5 cm.
Do I need to convert my measurements before ordering?
No. The quote form accepts centimetres or inches. Send the numbers in the unit you measured in and make sure every measurement uses the same unit.
How precise do my measurements need to be?
To the nearest half centimetre or quarter inch is precise enough. More important is measuring the right place, with the tape level and snug but not tight.
