Paying in full in advance: transfer, Wise or card link
Why made-to-measure orders are paid in full before making starts, how bank transfer, Wise and a card payment link compare, and how to pay safely against your quote.
InspirationHow payment works
Every order is paid in full in advance, before anything is made, by bank transfer, Wise or a card payment link. You pay the total shown on your written quote, in the quote’s currency, once you have checked and approved it. Your quote explains how to pay. Nothing is cut until the full payment has come through, and the 5 to 7 working days of making count from that point (on Stitching Only, from when your fabric also reaches us). If you are wondering how to pay for a made to measure order from abroad, this guide compares the three options and covers paying safely.
Why the full amount comes first
Paying in advance for custom clothing can feel like a leap, so it helps to know the reason. A made-to-measure outfit is cut for one body and one design. It cannot be sold to anyone else if the order falls through, and on Fabric + Stitching the fabric is bought specifically for you. Taking the full amount first means the work can start without stopping for a second payment, and there is no balance to chase on delivery.
In return, you know exactly what you are paying for before you pay: the written quote sets out the design, fabric, measurements, total, delivery arrangements, processing time and the policies that apply, including cancellation.
The three ways to pay
- Bank transfer: you send the amount from your bank to the account details in your quote. Add your quote reference so the payment can be matched. International transfers can take a few working days, and some banks charge a fee or have fees deducted along the way, so ask your bank how it handles transfers abroad.
- Wise: an online money-transfer service. You pay in your own currency and Wise converts and sends it, showing the exchange rate and fee before you confirm. Useful if your money is in a different currency from your quote.
- Card payment link: we send you a payment link and you pay by card. If your card is in a different currency from the quote, your card issuer converts it and may add a foreign-currency fee.
Choosing the method that suits you
- Your account is in the quote’s currency: a bank transfer is usually simple, for example a sterling quote paid from a UK account.
- Your money is in another currency: compare Wise with your bank’s or card’s exchange rate and fees before choosing. Our guide to paying from abroad explains the currency side.
- You want it done in a minute: a card payment link is the quickest to complete.
- You are close to a date: a card payment or Wise transfer may arrive sooner than a traditional transfer, so ask your provider how long it takes.
Paying safely
A few simple checks protect you and keep your order moving.
- Only pay against a written quote that you have read and approved.
- Check the amount and currency match the quote exactly.
- Use the payment details given in your quote or the link we send in our conversation with you. If you ever receive different details, ask us before paying.
- Keep your receipt or confirmation and send it to us, especially for a bank transfer.
- Never pay a courier on delivery. Import charges are already in your quote; if anyone asks, contact us first.
After you pay
Once the payment is in, your order is confirmed. On Fabric + Stitching, the making time begins; on Stitching Only, it begins when your fabric reaches us. If you need to cancel, our page on payment and cancellations explains what is refunded before cutting and why nothing is refunded after cutting begins.
Customers in Germany and Kuwait can each choose euros, US dollars or pounds for their quote, and pay by any of the three methods. Read about the custom stitching service, then request your quote.
