V-Neck Kameez Designs: Depth, Modesty and Finishing

Also called V gala

Quick answer

A V-neck (V gala) is two straight edges meeting in a point at the centre front. A shallow V works for everyday and office wear; a deeper V looks dressier for Eid and gatherings. The depth is the key choice, so give us your front neck depth, and we’ll keep the point crisp with the right finish for your fabric.

What it is

The two sides of the neckline run in straight lines from the shoulders to a point. The depth of that point and how far apart the lines start at the shoulders decide the look: narrow and shallow feels smart and modest; wide and deep feels open and festive.

Who and what it suits

  • Round faces, short necks and fuller busts: the vertical line lengthens and is usually more flattering than a high, closed neck.
  • Broad shoulders: a V draws the eye inwards.
  • Work and campus: a shallow V looks tidy under a dupatta or with a collar (a V with a band collar is a common combination).
  • Eid and dawats: a deeper V shows off an embroidered neck piece or a lace edge.

Keeping the point sharp

The point of a V is where a neckline most often goes wrong: it puckers or rounds off after a few washes. A neat facing and careful clipping at the point keep it sharp. Crisp cambric and cotton hold a V easily; soft lawn needs a good facing; sheer chiffon and georgette need a bound or lined edge so the V doesn’t stretch or show seam allowances.

Measurements that matter

The front neck depth sets how low the point sits. The width across the shoulders matters too, especially for deeper Vs, so the neckline doesn’t slide towards the shoulders. For a modest V, choose a shallower depth; you can also ask for a small hook or an inner modesty panel at the point.

How to ask for it

Choose “V-neck” on the stitching quote form and write the front neck depth in the notes. Mention any combination you want, such as a V with a band collar or piping, and add a photo if you have one.

Common questions

Is a V-neck suitable for everyday wear?

Yes, especially a shallow V. It sits well under a dupatta and looks smart for work. Keep deeper Vs for occasions if you prefer more coverage.

Can a V-neck be made more modest?

Yes. Choose a shallower depth, or ask for a hook at the point or an inner modesty panel. We confirm the exact depth in your design approval.
