Round Neck (Gol Gala) for Kameez and Kurtas
Also called gol gala
Quick answer
A round neck (gol gala) is a simple curve at the base of the neck, from high and close to wide and scooped. It suits almost every face, fabric and occasion, which is why it’s the everyday default. Tell us the front neck depth you want, or send the measurement from a kameez you like.
What it is
A round neckline follows a smooth curve from one side of the neck to the other. The same shape can look very different depending on two numbers: how deep it drops at the front and how wide it sits across the shoulders. A high, close round neck looks neat and modest; a lower, wider one reads as a scoop.
Who and what it suits
- Everyday and work: it sits flat under a dupatta, a cardigan or a coat and needs no adjusting through the day.
- Any face shape: a slightly deeper round neck lengthens a round face; a higher one balances a long neck.
- Printed lawn: a plain round neck lets a busy print do the talking.
- Embroidered neck pieces: many embroidered lawn packs are worked for a round or near-round neckline.
Fabrics and finishing
Round necks work in every fabric we stitch. In lawn and cotton the edge is usually finished with a facing or piping; in sheer chiffon a narrow bound edge keeps seam allowances from showing; in thick khaddar or karandi a clean facing keeps the curve from looking bulky.
Popular finishes are single or contrast piping, a thin lace edge, or the embroidered neck piece from your suit pack.
Measurements that matter
The front neck depth controls how low the curve sits. Your shoulder measurement decides how wide the neckline can go before it slips off the shoulder. If the neckline is small and the fabric has no stretch, it may need a short opening at the back or front to go over your head; we’ll confirm this in your design approval.
How to ask for it
Choose “Round” under neckline on the stitching quote form and write the front neck depth in the notes. If you have a kameez whose round neck you like, send that measurement and a photo; it’s the most reliable way to get the same result.
Common questions
What depth is a normal round neck?
It varies with personal preference and the rest of the design, so we don’t assume one. Measure a kameez whose neckline you like from the base of the neck at the shoulder line to the lowest point, and send that number.
Will a round neck fit over my head?
A wide or deep round neck usually does. A small, high one in fabric without stretch may need a short opening with a button or hook, which we agree with you before cutting.
