Suits, dresses and separates

Anarkali suits, long and flared, cut to fit

An anarkali is a frock taken all the way down: fitted through the bodice, then flaring out to the ankle or the floor. Worn with churidar and a dupatta it is a suit; worn on its own it is a dress. The Emerald Rose Anarkali is drawn that way, and the long-sleeved frocks below can be made at full anarkali length with churidar on the order form.

What makes it an anarkali

Three things: a close bodice, a seam high on the waist, and a lot of flare below it. The flare is what makes an anarkali swing when you turn. The longer the skirt, the more fabric goes into it, which is why an anarkali feels so different from a frock to the knee.

People mix up the names. A frock is usually shorter, an angrakha wraps across the front, and a gown is closer to Western evening wear. Angrakha or anarkali and frock, maxi or gown explain the differences, and anarkali flare in metres tells you what the numbers mean.

With churidar and a dupatta, or as a dress

The classic way is churidar underneath: narrow trousers cut longer than your leg so they gather in soft rings at the ankle. Add a dupatta and you have a three-piece anarkali suit for Eid or a wedding. Choose churidar on the order form, and add a dupatta under the pieces.

On its own, an anarkali is simply a long dress with sleeves. The Royal Blue Yoke Dress already works that way. For a looser feel, ask for straight trousers or palazzos instead of churidar. How a churidar should fit is worth a look before you send your measurements.

Anarkalis for Eid and weddings

Deep colours suit the long, flared shape best. The emerald, royal blue, bottle green and plum designs all carry gold or silver work at the neckline and sleeves, and they look rich at floor length. For a mehndi, the saffron and scarlet designs bring the warmer colours.

Sleeves can be full length on every design, and sheer sleeves can be lined. If a design is drawn shorter, choose calf or floor length on the order form and we confirm it in your quote. Which fabric for a frock or anarkali helps you choose a cloth that holds the flare.

Sizes, measurements and timing

Choose S to XL, or send your own bust, waist, hip and full length, labelled body or garment. For an anarkali the waist seam has to land in the right place, so measure from the shoulder to just under the bust as well. The size guide shows how.

Making takes 5 to 7 working days once your quote is approved and paid in full, then shipping, and your quote includes delivery to your door and any import duties and fees. A longer skirt needs more fabric, so any difference in price is shown in the quote before you pay.

FAQ

Anarkali suits questions

What is an anarkali suit?

A long, flared kameez with a fitted bodice, usually worn with churidar trousers and a dupatta. Without the trousers and dupatta it is worn as a long dress.

Can any frock here be made as an anarkali?

Yes. Every design on this page can be made at calf, ankle or floor length with full sleeves and churidar. Choose them on the order form and we confirm it in writing before cutting.

What is the difference between an anarkali and a frock?

Mostly length and flare. A frock usually stops at the knee or calf; an anarkali goes to the ankle or floor with a much fuller skirt.

Can I wear one for my own wedding?

These anarkalis are made for guests, Eid and family occasions. For your own wedding day, the one piece we make is a bridal abaya.
