Kaftans, embroidered and cut to fit

A kaftan is the most forgiving thing you can wear to a long evening: one easy line from the shoulders to the floor, with the embroidery doing all the work. We have two designs of our own so far, a dressy emerald kaftan with cape sleeves and a quieter sage one for every day. If neither is quite you, send a photo of the kaftan you have in mind and we make that instead.

Styles we can make from a photo

These are free stock photos from Pexels, shown only to give you an idea of the style. They are not our products and we did not make them. Send one of them, or any photo of your own, with your quote request, and we confirm in writing what we can make to your measurements before anything is cut.

01

Two kaftans to start from

The Emerald Vine Cape Kaftan is the one for Eid, a walima or a family wedding. The sleeves are cut as a cape that falls in long points, so your arms are covered but nothing feels tight, and gold vines run down the front, along the sleeve edges and all the way round the hem. From the back you see the same vines on the yoke and the hem, which is what people notice when you walk away.

The Sage Arch Kaftan is calmer: a band collar, a straight relaxed line to the ankle and arches embroidered down the front. It is the one you will wear most, from Friday prayers to a summer dinner.

  • Dressy: Emerald Vine Cape Kaftan, for Eid, weddings and evenings
  • Everyday: Sage Arch Kaftan, for prayers, dinners and holidays
  • Your own: any kaftan from a photo, quoted individually

02

Kaftan or abaya?

People ask this a lot. An abaya is usually worn over your clothes and often opens at the front. A kaftan is worn on its own, as the outfit, and is usually closed and wide through the body. Many women own both: the abaya for going out, the kaftan for the occasion itself or for home.

Our guide to abaya or kaftan goes into the details, and how much fabric a kaftan needs explains why the wide styles use more.

03

Sizes, length and sleeves

Choose S to XL, or send your own measurements. For a kaftan the important ones are the shoulder width, the bust, the hip and the full length from the shoulder to the floor in your shoes. The width is easy to get right because a kaftan is loose; the length is the one to measure carefully. Kaftan width and how to measure it shows how.

If cape sleeves are not for you, ask for closed sleeves on the emerald design, or a longer or shorter sleeve on the sage one. We confirm every change in your written quote before cutting.

04

Ordering a kaftan from your own photo

Seen a kaftan you love? Send the photo, your measurements and the colour you want. We reply with a written quote for that design, including what the embroidery will look like on the fabric we agree. The inspiration photos on this page are a good place to start if you only have a rough idea.

Making takes 5 to 7 working days once your quote is approved and paid in full, then shipping. Your quote includes delivery to your door and any import duties and fees. For more on custom work, see our custom kaftans page.

FAQ

Kaftans questions

Can I order a kaftan from a photo?

Yes. Send the photo with your measurements and we reply with a written quote for that kaftan. We confirm what can be made, and on which fabric, before anything is cut.

Are the inspiration photos your products?

No. They are free stock photos from Pexels, shown only to illustrate kaftan styles. Our own designs are the Emerald Vine Cape Kaftan and the Sage Arch Kaftan at the top of the page.

What is the difference between a kaftan and an abaya?

A kaftan is usually worn on its own as the outfit, closed and wide through the body. An abaya is usually worn over other clothes and often opens at the front.

How long does a kaftan take?

Making takes 5 to 7 working days once your quote is approved and paid in full, then shipping to your country. Your quote includes delivery to your door and any import duties and fees.
