Suits, dresses and separates

Pakistani wedding clothes for guests, from dholki to walima

Eleven outfits for the guest side of a Pakistani wedding: suits with gold work for the barat, an anarkali and a gown for the walima, and lighter sets for the dholki and mehndi. Each is made to order in Pakistan, in S to XL or to your own measurements, and shipped to you. We make outfits for wedding guests and, as the one exception, bridal abayas. We do not make lehengas or any other wedding-day outfit for the woman getting married.

Which outfit for which event

A Pakistani wedding is usually a run of events, and each has its own mood. The dholki is an evening of songs at home, often sitting on the floor, so choose something easy to move in, such as Terracotta Scallop or the Blossom Border set with its wide palazzos. The mehndi is the brightest night. The Peach Marigold Three-Piece, with orange marigolds around the neckline and along a scalloped hem, fits it well, and Teal Heritage suits a mehndi in deeper shades.

The nikah tends to be quieter and more covered. Dusty Rose Blossom, with its keyhole neckline and three-quarter sleeves, or the Wisteria Fit-and-Flare in powder blue keep the look soft. The barat is the most formal day for guests, and the dark suits with gold carry it, as does the Emerald Rose Anarkali with its full skirt to the floor. For the walima, the Peacock Feather Gown works once sleeves or a matching shawl are added.

  • Dholki: Terracotta Scallop, Blossom Border Kurta and Palazzo Set
  • Mehndi: Peach Marigold Three-Piece, Teal Heritage
  • Nikah: Dusty Rose Blossom, Wisteria Fit-and-Flare Dress
  • Barat: Maroon Heritage, Midnight Gold, Emerald Rose Anarkali
  • Walima: Peacock Feather Gown, with sleeves or a shawl

Making a suit wedding-ready

Most pieces here are two-piece sets, so the first question is whether you want a dupatta. Many guests do for a nikah or a barat, and a matching one can be added to any two-piece design, with its price shown in your quote. The Peach Marigold Three-Piece already has a sheer dupatta in the same peach, and the karandi suit arrives with one bordered on all four sides.

Then look at where the gold sits. On jet black, Midnight Gold has embroidered bands at the cuffs and a broad border at the hem below a band collar. Teal Heritage adds a button placket worked in gold and ivory, while Maroon Heritage covers both sleeves from shoulder to wrist in gold and rose. If you want more shine for an evening event, ask about zari, beadwork or sequins on the order form, and what suits the design is confirmed in writing. The fabric is agreed in the quote as well, so mention the season.

Planning the order around the wedding date

Count back from the first event you need the outfit for, not the last. Making takes 5 to 7 working days once your quote is approved and paid in full. Shipping time to your country is added on top, and agreeing the quote can take a few messages if you are changing the design, so leave room for that as well. Delivery and any import duties and taxes are in the written quote, so nothing is collected at the door.

If you need outfits for several events, ask for them together and one quote covers every piece, made from one set of measurements. Put the wedding date in your request so the timing can be checked with you. Our guide to planning ahead for made to measure has more on timing, and guest outfits for every wedding event walks through each day in turn.

04

Abayas for the wedding, including bridal abayas

If you wear an abaya to weddings, our wedding guest abayas are embroidered for evening events and sit well over a long dress or a slim suit. We also make bridal abayas to measure, for a nikah or walima where the woman getting married wears an abaya.

Bridal abayas go through our custom abaya service, where the cut, sleeves, length and embroidery are planned with you and confirmed in writing before anything is made. The timing is the same: 5 to 7 working days to make once the quote is paid in full, then shipping to your country.

FAQ

Wedding guest outfits questions

What should a guest wear to a Pakistani wedding?

Most guests wear a dressed-up shalwar kameez, an anarkali or a long gown, with the brightest colours at the mehndi and the most formal pieces at the barat and walima. Long sleeves and a dupatta suit a nikah. On this page, Maroon Heritage and Midnight Gold are the formal suits, and Peach Marigold suits a mehndi.

Do you make bridal abayas?

Yes. Bridal abayas are made to measure through our custom abaya service, with the cut, length, sleeves and embroidery agreed with you and confirmed in your written quote. We do not make lehengas or other wedding-day outfits for the woman getting married; everything else on this page is for guests.

How far ahead should I order a wedding outfit?

Making takes 5 to 7 working days once your quote is approved and paid in full, and shipping time to your country is added. Leave extra room for agreeing the quote, especially if you are changing the design, and count back from the first event you will wear it to rather than the last.

Can I order a Pakistani wedding outfit from the UK?

Yes. Every outfit is made in Pakistan and shipped worldwide, with UK quotes in pounds. Delivery and any import duties and taxes are included in your written quote, so there is nothing to pay when the parcel arrives. Give the wedding date when you ask for a quote, so the timing can be checked with you.

Are the pictures of finished outfits?

Apart from the plum karandi suit, which is photographed as a real piece, these are design previews. They were made before sewing to show the shape, the colours and the placement of the embroidery. Your outfit follows that design, and the fabric and any changes are written into your quote before work starts.
