Customising one of our designs: what you can change
How to customise one of our designs before it is made to measure: what can change, from neckline and sleeves to length and lining, and when to send your own design.
InspirationOrdering a design as it is, or changed
You can customise one of our designs by opening it on the designs page, pressing the customise button, and changing the choices the form fills in for you. The changes you can make are the ones the quote form offers: neckline, sleeves, length, lining, and, where they apply to the design, the pieces, trouser style, level of embroidery and whether we supply the fabric. Everything is then cut to your measurements and confirmed in writing before cutting.
If you want something beyond those choices, a different cut or a new detail altogether, the better route is to send your own design, using the design you like as one of your references.
The designs you can start from
Each design page shows the outfit as drawn, its colours and the details you can change. Current designs include:
- [Tiered maxi dress](/designs/tiered-maxi-dress): a chiffon maxi in seven colours, in sizes S to XL or made to measure.
- [Button-front shirt dress](/designs/shirt-dress): in Emerald Green, Navy, Black, Maroon or Beige, in sizes S to XL or made to measure.
- [Embroidered karandi suit](/designs/embroidered-karandi-suit): a plum three-piece for winter, with embroidery at the neckline, cuffs and hem.
What you can change
- Neckline: round, V-neck, sweetheart, boat, square or band collar. See the necklines library.
- Sleeves: sleeveless, short, elbow, three-quarter, full length or bell. Choose a longer sleeve for modesty, or a three-quarter sleeve for warm weather.
- Length: a longer or shorter kameez or dress. On the dresses the choices are floor, ankle or calf length.
- Lining: lined, unlined, or let us advise for the fabric.
- Pieces: on suits, add or leave out the dupatta, or add a waistcoat.
- Trousers: on suits, shalwar, straight, cigarette, wide-leg, sharara, gharara or churidar.
- Embroidery level: none, delicate, detailed or a bolder statement finish.
- Fabric route: our fabric, agreed with you from photos, or your own, once we have confirmed it suits the design.
Choosing changes that keep the design’s character
A design is a set of details that work together, so change one thing at a time and ask what it does to the rest. Lengthening a tiered dress adds fabric to the lowest tier and makes it more dramatic; swapping full sleeves for elbow sleeves on an embroidered suit removes the cuff embroidery from view; changing straight trousers to a wide-leg style shifts the balance of a three-piece. None of these is wrong, but think about the look as a whole.
If you are unsure, choose “advise me” for that detail and tell us what you are trying to achieve, such as more coverage, more warmth or something easier to wear every day. We suggest an option in your quote.
Size and measurements
Where a design offers sizes S to XL you can choose one, or have it made to your own measurements instead. Made to measure is the better choice if you are between sizes, tall, petite, or changing the length a long way. The size guide explains how to measure, and you can enter measurements in centimetres or inches.
Sending your changes
Start from the design page, or go straight to the customise form and choose the design there. Add your changes, your measurements and your delivery country, and we send one written quote with the agreed details and the total, including delivery and any import charges. Once you approve and pay in full, it is made in 5 to 7 working days, then shipped.
In the UK, the UK customisation page explains how this works from there, with quotes in pounds. For something entirely new, see Send Your Design.
Common questions
Which details of your designs can I change?
The neckline, sleeves, length and lining, and where they apply, the pieces, trouser style, embroidery level and whether we supply the fabric. These are the choices on the quote form. For other changes, send your own design instead.
Can I order a design exactly as shown?
Yes. Leave the pre-filled details as they are and add your size or measurements. It is still cut and made for you.
Can I have one of your designs in my own fabric?
Ask for Stitching Only in your quote request. We confirm the fabric suits the design and that there is enough before you post anything to us.
