A made-to-measure capsule wardrobe of kurtas and suits

How to build a made-to-measure capsule wardrobe: a colour palette, ten core pieces that mix and match for work, weekends and Eid, and ordering it in stages.

Why made to measure suits a capsule

A made-to-measure capsule wardrobe is a small set of kurtas, trousers, dupattas and a few extra pieces, all cut to your measurements in a shared colour palette, so nearly everything works with everything else. Because every piece is made from one set of measurements, the kameez lengths, trouser rises and sleeve shapes stay consistent, which is exactly what makes mixing and matching easy.

Ready-made pieces from different brands rarely line up like that: one kurta is too short for your favourite trousers, another dupatta clashes with every kameez. Building the wardrobe deliberately avoids the orphan pieces that never get worn.

Choose a palette first

Pick two neutrals and two or three accent colours. Neutrals might be navy and ivory, or black and camel; accents might be emerald, rust and dusty pink. Every trouser and most dupattas come from the neutrals, while kurtas carry the accents and prints. Our guide to choosing colours that suit you helps narrow the choice, and matching dupatta and trouser colours shows how the pieces link.

Ten pieces for a capsule wardrobe

  • Three everyday kurtas: one plain, one printed, one textured, in cotton or linen, at the same length.
  • One smarter kameez: cotton silk or jacquard with delicate embroidery at the neckline, for dinners and work events.
  • One festive kameez: detailed or statement embroidery for Eid and gatherings.
  • Three trousers: a straight trouser, a cigarette pant and a wide-leg or palazzo, all in neutrals. See the trouser styles.
  • Two dupattas: one light cotton for daytime, one chiffon or organza with a finished edge for occasions.
  • Optional extras: a waistcoat for winter layering and a dress, such as a shirt dress, for days off.

How the pieces work across occasions

Ten pieces give dozens of combinations. A printed kurta with cigarette pants is a work outfit; add the chiffon dupatta and it is ready for an Eid visit. The textured kurta with wide trousers suits the weekend, and with the waistcoat it carries into a cold evening. The festive kameez can be dressed down with the cotton dupatta for a dawat, so it earns its place beyond one day a year.

Keep the kameez lengths consistent, ideally knee or just below, so every top suits every trouser. Our guide to making your suits last longer explains rotation and care, which matters when fewer pieces are worn more often.

Seasonal swaps for a year-round capsule

A capsule does not have to stay the same all year. Keep the trousers, dupattas and festive kameez as a permanent core, and swap the three everyday kurtas with the seasons: lawn and linen for summer, cambric for spring and autumn, and khaddar or karandi when it turns cold. Because every new kurta is cut from the same measurements and at the same length, it slots straight into the existing set.

When you add winter pieces, ask for a little more ease so you can wear a fine layer underneath, and choose kurtas in the same palette as your trousers rather than starting a new colour story. Our everyday wear page has more ideas for pieces you will reach for every week.

Ordering a capsule in stages

You do not need to order everything at once. Many people start with the trousers and two kurtas, live with them for a season, then add the rest. Single-piece orders are accepted, and keeping your measurements consistent makes each later order simple. With Fabric + Stitching, tell us your palette and we share fabric photos and descriptions with your quote.

Production is 5 to 7 working days from approval and full payment, with shipping time extra. Customers in Germany choose euros, US dollars or pounds; our Berlin page and the German fabric and stitching service explain the details. When you are ready, ask for a Fabric + Stitching quote and list the pieces and colours in your notes.

Common questions

How many pieces should a capsule wardrobe of kurtas have?

Around ten is a good start: three everyday kurtas, a smarter and a festive kameez, three trousers and two dupattas, with a waistcoat or dress as optional extras.

Can I order a capsule wardrobe one piece at a time?

Yes. Single-piece custom orders are accepted, so you can build the capsule in stages using the same measurements.

Can you choose the fabrics to match my palette?

With Fabric + Stitching, tell us your colours and preferred weight, and we share fabric photos and descriptions with your quote before anything is agreed.
