The short answer

Wedding season in Pakistan is the cool part of the year, roughly from November to February, with December the busiest month by a wide margin. Some families also choose the mild weeks of early spring before the heat returns. Outside Pakistan the calendar is different: in the UK, the US and Canada, Pakistani and wider South Asian weddings cluster in summer and around long weekends, and in the Gulf many families plan around the cooler months or fly home for December.

Why December, in Pakistan

Three things push weddings into winter. The first is weather: summers on the plains are very hot and the monsoon follows, while winter days are pleasant enough for marquees, lawns and outdoor dinners. The second is family travel: relatives abroad can come during school and Christmas holidays, so a December date gathers the most people. The third is the calendar of the year itself, because many families avoid holding celebrations during Ramadan, and some also avoid the first days of Muharram.

Ramadan moves about eleven days earlier each year. In the next few years it begins in February and then late January, so it cuts into the end of the winter season and pushes more weddings into December, January and the weeks after Eid.

The UK, the US and Canada

In Britain, Asian wedding season usually means late spring to early autumn, with Saturdays and the bank holiday weekends in May and August booked early. Venues for large South Asian weddings are often reserved a year or more ahead, so dates tend to be fixed long before outfits are thought about. December weddings still happen, but many British Pakistani families spend December at weddings in Pakistan instead.

In the US and Canada the pattern is similar: summer weekends, with long weekends such as Memorial Day and Labor Day in the US and Victoria Day and Canada Day in Canada popular because guests travel. Hard winters in Canada and the Northeast make the cold months less attractive for multi-day events. In every country, weddings also bunch up in the weeks after Eid ul Fitr.

The Gulf

In the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman, weddings are held indoors in air-conditioned halls throughout the year, but the cooler months from late autumn to early spring are preferred for anything outdoors. Summer is also when many families leave on holiday. For Pakistani families in the Gulf, December often means flying to Pakistan for a family wedding rather than holding one locally.

When to order guest outfits

Making takes 5 to 7 working days from the approval and full payment of your quote, and shipping to your address is added on top. We ship to customers abroad, so for a wedding in Pakistan the outfit is sent to your home address and has to arrive before you fly. Our guides for UK weddings, US weddings and weddings in Canada cover what to wear; this list is only about timing.

  • December in Pakistan: order in early autumn so the quote, any questions about measurements and the parcel all fit before your flight.
  • A UK or North American summer wedding: order in spring, when invitations arrive, rather than in the final month.
  • Eid followed by weddings: order both together, as our article on ordering several outfits at once explains.
  • Your own fabric: under Stitching Only your fabric has to reach us first, which adds a shipping stage at the start.

Planning backwards from the date

Work back from the first event you will attend, not the main day, because the mehndi or dholki usually comes first. Our guide to planning ahead for made-to-measure shows the steps, and when you know the dates you can request a quote with them in your notes.

Common questions

Do Pakistani weddings happen in summer at all?

Yes. They tend to be smaller and held indoors, often in the evening, and many families time them for school holidays when relatives can travel. Light fabrics such as lawn, chiffon and cotton silk suit those events.

Does a December wedding in Pakistan need warm clothes?

In the north, yes: evenings in cities such as Lahore and Islamabad can be properly cold, and outdoor marquees are not always heated. Karachi is much milder. A heavier fabric, full sleeves or a shawl over the outfit are worth planning for.

Is the UK wedding season the same for Pakistani and other weddings?

Broadly, yes. Summer is the busy season for most UK weddings, so venues fill quickly whatever the tradition, and South Asian families often book even earlier because the events are larger and run over several days.
