The Gilded Seam: Custom Women’s Stitching

What does shirt only mean on a stitched suit listing?

Shirt only meaning: you get the stitched kameez alone, with no trousers, dupatta or slip. What two-piece, inner included and bottom not included mean on a listing.

Just the kameez

“Shirt only” means you receive the stitched kameez, the shirt, and nothing else: no trousers, no dupatta and, unless the listing says so, no inner slip. The trousers and dupatta you may see in the photos were added for styling.

Ready-to-wear listings use a handful of short phrases to say which pieces arrive. They are not standard across sellers, so it pays to read the list of contents as well as the title. If you are still deciding between ready-made and fabric you have stitched, start with stitched vs unstitched.

The common phrases, decoded

These are the usual meanings. When a listing is unclear, ask the seller before you buy.

  • Shirt only, or 1-piece: the kameez alone.
  • 2-piece: two items, most often a shirt and trousers, but sometimes a shirt and dupatta. The contents list tells you which.
  • 3-piece: shirt, trousers and dupatta.
  • Inner included, or slip included: a separate inner garment, usually a sleeveless slip, comes with a sheer shirt. It is worn underneath and is not sewn in.
  • Lining attached: the lining is sewn inside the shirt, rather than coming as a separate slip.
  • Bottom not included, or trousers not included: the trousers in the photo are not part of the item.
  • Co-ord: a top and trousers designed as a matching set; read the list, as some co-ords are sold piece by piece.

Why the photo can mislead

Shoot photos show the whole look, so a shirt-only item is often worn with trousers, a dupatta and jewellery from elsewhere. Some sellers note “styling only” or “for photography purposes” in small print. A quick way to check: if the trousers are not mentioned in the contents or the size chart, they are not coming.

The size chart deserves the same care. Many give garment measurements rather than body measurements, so compare them with a kameez you own; our page on body and garment measurements explains the difference.

If you would rather choose every piece

A made-to-measure order removes the guesswork, because you choose the pieces yourself: kameez, trousers, dupatta or a waistcoat, or a single piece on its own. With Fabric + Stitching we supply the agreed fabric, and the written quote lists exactly which pieces are being made. A two-piece kurta and trouser set is a common choice when a dupatta is not wanted.

We do not alter ready-made clothes or sell fabric on its own, so we cannot adjust a shirt you have bought. If you want trousers to go with it, send a daylight photo of the shirt and ask in a Fabric + Stitching quote; we confirm what fabric and colour are possible before you pay.

Common questions

Does inner included mean the shirt is lined?

Not usually. It means a separate slip comes with the shirt to wear underneath. A shirt with the lining sewn in is normally described as lined or lining attached.

Is a two-piece always a shirt and trousers?

No. It is the most common pairing, but some two-piece listings are a shirt and dupatta. Always check the contents list.

Does a kurta come with trousers?

Only if the listing says so. A kurta on its own is a single top, and trousers are often sold separately or styled in from another item.
