How a custom design is agreed in writing before cutting

From your first enquiry to the written quote you approve: how a custom design is agreed in writing before any fabric is cut, what it records and why it protects you.

Why the design is written down first

With every custom design we make, the design is agreed in writing before any fabric is cut. Your references, notes and measurements are turned into a written description in your quote, you check it, and only once you have approved it and paid in full does the work begin. Because you are ordering from abroad and we make everything in Pakistan, that written design is the shared record of exactly what will be made.

This article follows a custom design from first enquiry to approval. For the checklist of what the approval covers, see our design approval guide.

Step 1: your enquiry

The first enquiry needs only the basics: your name, email, country and city, the garment, how many, whether you want Fabric + Stitching or Stitching Only, your design images and your notes. You can add measurements now or later. Send it on the custom quote form; your full delivery address is collected only when the order goes ahead.

Step 2: questions and suggestions

Next, we read your design against your measurements and your fabric plans. Expect questions where a detail is open: how deep a neckline should be, whether a sleeve is gathered, what should happen at the back. If a detail will not sit well in your fabric or your size, we say so and suggest an alternative. If you chose “advise me” for anything, this is where we propose an option.

This back-and-forth is normal and worth taking time over. Changes cost nothing at this stage, because nothing has been cut.

Step 3: the written quote

Your written quote sets out:

  • The agreed design: each piece described in words, including cut, neckline, sleeves, lengths, trousers, dupatta, lining, trims and embellishment.
  • The fabric: our proposed fabric with photos and descriptions, or confirmation of yours and how to send it.
  • Your measurements: as you gave them, with anything we have confirmed with you.
  • Any customisation of one of our designs.
  • The total: including delivery to your address and any import duties, taxes and customs or courier fees, so there is nothing to pay on arrival.
  • Processing time and policies: 5 to 7 working days of making, and the terms that apply.

Step 4: check, approve and pay

Read the written design line by line with your references beside you. Check that every detail you care about is there, that lengths are given as you intended, and that nothing has been added that you did not ask for. If anything is wrong, ask for a correction now. Our guide to what your written quote includes has more on reading it.

When you are happy, approve it and pay in full by bank transfer, Wise or a card payment link. Making starts then, or, with your own fabric, when it reaches us.

What the written design protects

The written design works both ways. If a paid order is cancelled before cutting, you are refunded minus the cost of any fabric already bought for it, and with Stitching Only nothing is deducted for fabric. Once cutting has started there is no refund, which is why checking before approval matters so much.

If the finished outfit does not match the agreed measurements or design because of our mistake, we correct or remake it without charge for the work; it must be reported no more than 7 days after delivery, and you pay the postage both ways. The written design is what the outfit is checked against. Our page on payment and cancellations has the details, and the Send Your Design service explains the process from the start. Common questions

Is anything cut before I approve the design?

No. Your design, fabric and measurements are agreed in writing first, and work begins only after you approve the quote and pay in full.

Can I change the design after seeing the quote?

Yes, before you approve it. Tell us what to change and we update the written design. Once cutting has started, the design cannot be changed.

What if the outfit does not match the written design?

If it does not match the agreed measurements or design because of our mistake, we correct or remake it without charge for the work. Report it no more than 7 days after delivery; you pay the postage both ways.
