Keeping your measurements on file for next time

Do tailors keep your measurements? Many do, if you agree. How the tick-box on our quote form works, when to measure again, and how to change what is stored.

Do tailors keep your measurements?

Many do, but you should never assume it. A neighbourhood tailor may keep a notebook; an online one keeps them only if its process says so. With us it is your choice: the stitching quote form has a tick-box that reads “Keep my measurements on file for future orders”. Tick it and your measurements stay with your order record so that a repeat order is easier. Leave it empty and they are kept only for as long as that order needs.

Either way, stored numbers are a starting point, not a way round checking.

How the tick-box works

The box sits near the end of the stitching quote form, and it stays empty until you tick it. Our privacy notice sets out the rest: order records, including measurements and photos, are kept for as long as needed to fulfil your order, and to make repeat orders easier if you have asked for that.

Ticking the box does not mean your next outfit is cut from old numbers without a word. Every order has its own written quote, and the quote shows the measurements the outfit will be made from. You read them, correct anything that has changed, and only then approve. If you want an earlier set used, say so in your enquiry, so nobody has to guess which numbers you mean.

When to measure again

Bodies and preferences move, and a tape is quick. Our guide to checking measurements before you send them and the size guide make it a ten-minute job. Measure again when:

  • Your size has changed, even a little. Bust, waist and hip are the three numbers that move most.
  • It has been a year or more since you last measured.
  • The garment is a different kind. A kameez, an abaya and a pair of trousers each need measurements the others do not, such as the full length from the shoulder or the trouser rise.
  • The fabric is very different. A fit that was comfortable in soft lawn can feel tight in a firm cloth, so the ease may need rethinking.
  • The last outfit was not quite how you like it. Stored numbers repeat whatever you sent, including anything you would now change.

Reusing them well

If nothing has changed, reusing a set saves time. A few habits keep it safe.

  • Keep your own copy, with the date, the unit and a note of whether each number came from your body or from a garment.
  • Re-check three numbers before every order: bust, waist and hip. Shoulders and lengths rarely change.
  • Describe changes against the last outfit. “Same as last time, sleeves 2 cm longer, a little more room at the hip” is clear and quick to act on.
  • Say which outfit you mean if you have ordered more than once.

Changing or deleting what is stored

Your measurements are your data. You can ask us at any time to show you what we hold, to correct it or to delete it. The privacy notice says we delete records on request unless one has to be kept for legal or accounting reasons.

If you simply want a new set used from now on, send the new numbers and say they replace the old ones. To start a repeat order, see how custom stitching works or go straight to the form. If measuring is the part you would like a hand with, measuring help explains the options.

Common questions

Do I have to send my measurements again for a second order?

If you asked us to keep them, tell us you would like the same set used and confirm that nothing has changed. The measurements still appear in your written quote, so you can check them before you approve. If your size or the type of garment has changed, measure again.

How often should I re-measure?

Before any order if your size has changed, and about once a year otherwise. Bust, waist and hip are worth a quick check every time, because they change more than shoulders or lengths.

Can I ask for my measurements to be deleted?

Yes. Ask at any time and we delete them, unless a record must be kept for legal or accounting reasons. You can also ask to see or correct what is stored.
