What colours go with sage, mint or pistachio?
What colours go with sage green, mint or pistachio? White, beige, peach, lilac and deeper greens, with ready combinations for summer suits, dresses and dupattas.
InspirationSoft partners first, then one deeper note
Sage, mint and pistachio go best with white, cream and beige, with warm pastels such as peach and blush, with lilac, and with deeper greens such as bottle or forest green for contrast. Gold, and soft rust or terracotta, add warmth when you want the outfit to feel dressier.
They are three different greens, although sellers use the names loosely, and each leans a slightly different way:
- Sage is a greyed, muted green. It is the calmest of the three and the easiest to treat almost as a neutral.
- Mint is pale and cool, with a touch of blue. It looks fresh and crisp, especially next to white.
- Pistachio, or pista, is pale and slightly yellow: a warmer green that sits happily beside gold, cream and peach.
Pairings that work
Hold any pairing together in daylight before you decide, because pale greens shift a great deal under indoor bulbs.
- White and cream. The freshest summer pairing. White flatters mint; cream sits better with pistachio and sage.
- Beige and sand. Quiet and grown-up. Sage with beige trousers is an easy work combination.
- Peach and blush pink. Warm pastels that bring pale greens to life. A peach dupatta over a pistachio suit is a well-loved summer look.
- Lilac and lavender. A soft spring pairing for daytime gatherings.
- Deeper greens. Bottle, emerald or forest-green trousers or embroidery give a tonal outfit some depth; our guide to monochrome and tonal suits explains how.
- Gold and terracotta. Gold thread dresses pistachio up for Eid, and a rust or terracotta accent gives sage an earthy, autumn feel.
- Navy. Less expected, but navy trousers ground mint and stop it looking too sweet.
Three ready combinations
These colours are at their best in light summer fabrics; our spring lawn outfit ideas have more on wearing them through the warm months. Three outfits to start from:
- A day out: a mint lawn kurta, white straight trousers and a white or pale peach dupatta.
- Work: a sage kameez with beige trousers and a small-print dupatta that contains both colours.
- Eid or a dawat: a pistachio suit with gold or ivory embroidery at the neckline, cream trousers and a peach or pale gold dupatta.
When a pale green looks faded
A whole outfit of soft greens can look faded, particularly in strong sun. Add one firmer element: deeper trousers, a contrasting dupatta, embroidery in a darker or metallic thread, or a white collar or neckline for brightness. Texture helps too, as a slub or a self-woven pattern gives a quiet colour something for the light to catch.
Whether a given shade looks right next to your own face is a personal call, not a rule. Our rule-free colour guide offers a simple way to test it in a mirror.
Ordering in sage, mint or pistachio
These names vary more than most between sellers and screens; one shop’s pista is another’s mint. Send a photo or swatch reference of the exact green, and of the colours you want beside it, when you ask for a quote. Through Fabric + Stitching the fabric and colour are settled in your written quote before cutting. If you would like embroidery in a contrast thread, our custom embroidery page explains the levels you can choose from.
Common questions
Does pink go with sage green?
Yes. Blush, dusty rose and peachy pinks sit softly with sage. A brighter pink works as well, but in small amounts, such as a border or embroidery.
Can I wear mint green in winter?
Yes, in a heavier fabric and with deeper partners. Mint with navy, charcoal or bottle green looks seasonal rather than summery.
What trouser colour goes with a pistachio kameez?
Cream, white and beige are the safest. Gold-toned or peach trousers dress it up, and a deeper green gives a tonal look.
