Workwear wants a little detail and not much more. The Pearl Geometry lattice is a grid of thin cream lines with a small dot where they cross, kept to narrow bands rather than spread over the body, so from across a room it reads as texture rather than pattern. Pearl grey makes a change from black and is still muted enough for a formal office, though, being lighter, it shows a coffee spill sooner.
The three tailored designs keep their embroidery to the shawl collar and the cuffs. Desert Jasmine puts cream flowers and gold leaves on black, Olive Branch has soft gold branches on olive green, and Acacia has cream blossom and grey leaves on taupe. If you want even less, ask for the embroidery on the collar only.

Sleeves come first if you type all day. The lantern abaya gathers its full sleeves into a deep cuff, and the butterfly’s sleeves gather in at the wrist, so neither drags across a keyboard. The tailored and kimono shapes have straight sleeves, and both can be made with three-quarter sleeves instead. The bell, tulip, pleated and layered sleeves widen at the end, which is pretty on a day out but more likely to catch on a desk edge or a door handle. Each can be toned down: less flare on the bell, straight sleeves on the tulip, plain sleeve ends on the pleated design, one sleeve layer on the layered one.
Then think about what you carry. A laptop bag or backpack strap sits on the shoulder, which suits the closed shapes and the tailored cut. On the cape abaya a strap would press the short cape flat, so carry your bag in your hand or ask for a shorter cape. Open shapes such as the kimono, bisht and tailored abayas need something tidy underneath, while the butterfly, bell, lantern and layered abayas close and go over whatever you travel in.

Nida is the everyday choice: soft and matte, with an easy drape that does not draw the eye. Crepe has more weight and a fine grain, so a long straight cut like the tailored abaya falls cleanly from the shoulder and moves less on a windy walk to the bus. Chiffon is the lightest and the one to think about for a hot Gulf commute, but it is slightly sheer, so add a lining for the office.
Offices with strong air conditioning can feel cold even in summer. A lined crepe abaya, or a closed shape like the lantern with its stand collar, is warmer to sit in than open chiffon. Our guide to fabrics for air-conditioned offices goes further. Whichever you pick, the price stays the same.

If you are on your feet in a classroom or walking between lectures, length matters. Every design can have a slightly shorter, ankle-length hem, which keeps it clear of stairs and wet pavements. Made to measure means the hem is cut for your height rather than turned up from a standard size: send your height and the length you want, or measure an abaya you already own that sits right.
One work abaya rarely covers a whole week. A practical pair is one closed shape for days full of meetings and one open tailored abaya to wear over trousers and a long top, in two of the four colours here.

Pearl grey is a soft, light shade, not white, and the cream lattice keeps it quiet. It will show marks sooner than black or taupe, so if you eat at your desk or ride crowded trains, the tailored abayas in black, olive or taupe are the practical alternative.
One with gathered or straight sleeves. The lantern and butterfly abayas gather at the wrist, and the tailored abaya has straight sleeves that can be cut to three-quarter length.
