How ordering works
How to Choose Fabric That Is Comfortable to Wear
Quick answer
Start with the weather where you live and how you will wear the outfit. Lawn and cambric are light and breathable for heat and everyday wear, linen and khaddar suit cooler months, and velvet is for a cold-weather evening. With Fabric + Stitching we send photos and descriptions of the fabric we suggest, and nothing is cut until you agree it.
Match the fabric to your climate
- Hot and dry, or hot and humid (the Gulf, Texas, a British heatwave): lawn and cambric. Both are cotton, breathe well and wash easily.
- Air-conditioned days: offices, malls and cars can be cold. A lined kameez, or a slightly heavier cotton, keeps you comfortable going in and out.
- Cool or damp winters (the UK, northern Europe): khaddar, karandi or marina for warmth without bulk.
- In between: linen works in most seasons and looks smart for work.
- Dressy winter evenings: velvet.
Comfort is also about the cut
A breathable fabric can still feel tight if the cut is wrong. Tell us how you like your clothes to sit: a little ease at the hips, sleeves that do not cling, a softer neckline under an abaya or coat. Those choices go into your quote alongside the fabric. Our style library shows each neckline, sleeve and cut.
Lining matters too. A lined kameez sits better and stops lighter fabrics being see-through; unlined is cooler. If you are unsure, choose “advise me” and we suggest what suits the fabric.
How the fabric is agreed
With Fabric + Stitching, tell us the colours, the feel and the occasion, and we send photos and descriptions of the fabric we propose with your quote. We focus on reliable fabric that wears and washes well. With Stitching Only, send photos of your fabric first and we confirm it is suitable and that there is enough for your design.
Common questions
What is the coolest fabric for hot weather?
Lawn. It is a fine, light cotton that breathes well, which is why it is the usual summer choice. Cambric is a close second with a little more body.
Can I see the fabric before you cut it?
We share photos and descriptions with your quote, and nothing is cut until you agree the fabric. We do not offer free samples.
