Eid abaya ideas: planning a made-to-measure Eid abaya

Eid abaya ideas for a made-to-measure order: colour beyond black, where to place embroidery or lace, fabrics for a long day, what goes underneath and when to order.

An Eid abaya worth planning for

An Eid abaya is usually the one you think about longest: it is photographed, worn from the morning visit to the late family dinner, and often brought out again for weddings later in the year. Having it made to measure lets you decide the length, the sleeve, the colour and how much decoration it carries, instead of choosing between whatever ready-made sizes happen to be left in the shops the week before Eid.

This guide walks through the decisions that matter most for a made-to-measure Eid abaya, in the order we suggest making them. Every made-to-measure abaya we make is quoted individually, as Fabric + Stitching (we supply the agreed fabric) or Stitching Only (you send us your own), so each choice below is something to note on your request. We then confirm in writing what is possible on your fabric and design.

Colour: black, or something softer

Black remains the classic, and a good black abaya never looks out of place. For Eid, though, many women choose a deeper or softer shade so the day feels different from the rest of the year: navy, bottle green, plum, taupe, dusty rose, sage or a warm stone. A coloured abaya also photographs with more detail, because embroidery and texture show up better against a mid tone than against pure black.

If you are unsure, pick the colour of your inner dress or scarf first and build the abaya around it. Our gentle guide to choosing colours works for abayas just as well as for suits.

Placing embroidery, lace and borders

Decoration on an abaya works best where the eye naturally lands: the sleeve ends, the front opening and the hem. Our fancy work is offered as embellishment on a garment we are stitching, at three levels you choose on the quote form:

  • Delicate: work at the neckline or sleeves only. Quiet, and easy to wear again after Eid.
  • Detailed: neckline, sleeves and hem together, which frames the whole silhouette.
  • Statement: bolder work intended for Eid and parties, for the abaya that is meant to be noticed.

Fabric and drape for a long day

Eid is a long day of greeting, sitting, serving food and travelling between homes, so comfort matters as much as looks. In general, a matte crepe-type fabric drapes smoothly and resists creasing, chiffon or georgette layers feel light and move beautifully but need a lining, and linen or a cotton blend stays cool in Gulf heat. Our georgette and chiffon comparison explains how those two sheer fabrics behave.

We do not promise a particular fabric before we have seen your request. Tell us how you want the abaya to feel and where you will wear it, and the written quote names the fabric we agree on. If you already own a length you love, the Stitching Only service lets you send it to us after we confirm it is suitable.

What goes underneath

An open abaya shows what is beneath it, so plan the two pieces together. A matching or toning inner dress, a long kameez with straight trousers, or a simple slip dress in the abaya’s lining colour all work. If you would like an inner piece made alongside the abaya, describe it on the same request so both are cut from one set of measurements. Our modest dressing guide covers how sleeves, necklines and lengths sit together.

When to order your Eid abaya

Production takes 5 to 7 working days once the quote is approved and paid in full, and for Stitching Only it starts when your fabric reaches us. Shipping time is separate and depends on where you live, so leave a comfortable margin before Eid. Our Eid timeline sets out a sensible order of steps, and the Eid occasions page has more outfit ideas.

Ready to start? Send your colour, length, sleeve and embellishment wishes through the Fabric + Stitching quote form. Customers in the Gulf can read how ordering works from the UAE and Saudi Arabia, and the written quote always includes delivery and any import charges.

Common questions

Can I order a single abaya for Eid?

Yes. A single piece is a normal order. Each abaya is quoted individually, as Fabric + Stitching or Stitching Only, and the written quote lists the agreed design, fabric, measurements and total before you pay.

Can you add embroidery to an Eid abaya?

Embroidery, lace and borders can be added to an abaya we are stitching, at a delicate, detailed or statement level. What is possible on your chosen fabric and design is confirmed in the written quote.

How early should I order an Eid abaya?

Production is 5 to 7 working days after you approve and pay for the quote, and shipping time is extra and varies by country. Ordering several weeks ahead gives room for questions about fabric and design before cutting.
