Can I reorder the same outfit, or have it in another colour?
Can you reorder the same dress from a tailor? Yes, as a new order. What carries over from the first, what may change, and how to word a same-again request.
InspirationYes, as a new order
Yes. You can ask for the same outfit again, or the same design in another colour or fabric. Each repeat is a new order with its own written quote, and the design and measurements agreed the first time are the natural starting point. What cannot be promised is that every ingredient will be identical, because fabric comes in batches and bodies change.
So when you reorder the same dress from a tailor, think of it as reusing a recipe, not pressing a reprint button. Most of the thinking is already done, which makes a second order much quicker to brief than the first.
What carries over from the first order
Three things from your first order do the heavy lifting. Keep your written quote and send it, or its details, with the new request. Do not assume we are working from memory: the surest way to get the same again is to put the same specification in front of us, and to ask us if you are unsure what we need.
- The design. Neckline, sleeves, lengths, trouser style, lining and any embellishment level were written into your first quote. That document is the specification.
- The measurements. If the first outfit sits the way you want, the agreed numbers are proven. That is worth more than a fresh set taken in a hurry.
- What you learned. You now know how the cloth behaves, where the hem falls on you and what you would nudge.
What may not be the same
Five things can shift between one order and the next.
- The fabric batch. Cloth for a later order may come from a different dye lot, so the shade can differ slightly from the first piece.
- The fabric itself. We never promise that a particular fabric or colour is available. On Fabric + Stitching, what we can supply is confirmed in the new quote.
- Your measurements. If your size has changed since the first order, say so and re-measure. A piece made to old numbers that no longer suit you is not a fault.
- The total. Every order is quoted individually, so the new quote stands on its own.
- The behaviour of a new cloth. One pattern in two fabrics hangs two ways, as our guide to how fabric changes fit and drape shows.
The same design in another colour
This is the most common kind of repeat, and the simplest when the fabric type stays as it was. A lawn kurta repeated in lawn of another colour should behave like the first. Change the fabric type as well, say from lawn to chiffon, and questions about lining, ease and drape open again.
Our tiered maxi dress and shirt dress are each offered in several listed colours, so a second colour there is a simple choice. For your own design, name the new colour, attach a reference photo and tell us whether the tone must match anything you own. If you are supplying the fabric yourself through Stitching Only, send photos of the new fabric first; we confirm that it is suitable and sufficient before you post it, exactly as for a first order.
How to word a “same again, but” request
Lead with what stays, then list what changes, one line each. Five lines like these leave nothing to interpretation.
- “Same design and measurements as my earlier order (quote attached).”
- “Change 1: colour, from navy to a deep green. Reference photo attached.”
- “Change 2: sleeves 2 cm longer.”
- “Everything else exactly as before, including lining.”
- “My measurements have not changed.” Or: “My hip measurement is now 104 cm; the others are unchanged.”
What happens next
The repeat is confirmed in a written quote like any other order, paid in full in advance, and made in 5 to 7 working days from approval and payment, with shipping time separate. Begin on the quote form, or read the custom stitching page if you want to change the fabric route this time.
Common questions
Do I have to send my measurements again for a repeat order?
Send them, or the written quote from your first order, with the new request, and confirm whether anything has changed. That way the right numbers are in front of us and there is no doubt about which set to use.
Can I order the same outfit for my sister in her size?
Yes. The design carries over and her measurements replace yours. Treat it as a new order: send the design details and her full set of numbers, taken carefully.
Will a second order in the same colour match the first exactly?
Not necessarily. Fabric is dyed in batches that vary slightly, so a later piece can be a little lighter or darker. If the two must match, tell us before you approve the quote and we will say what is possible.
