Should you tell your tailor your event date?
Should you tell your tailor your event date? Yes. What the ‘needed by’ and ‘is the date fixed’ questions on our form change, and what no date can change.
InspirationYes, and say whether it is fixed
Yes, always tell your tailor your event date, and say whether it can move. A date lets the tailor tell you honestly whether it is realistic and shape the advice around it. What a date cannot do is shorten the making time or the courier’s journey, so the earlier you mention it, the more it helps.
Our stitching quote form asks for it directly. If you start from the custom design form instead, it has an optional event date field for the same purpose.
The two questions on our form
Needed by asks for your event date, or simply when you would like to wear the outfit. Put the day you will actually wear it. If you are travelling to the event, give the day you leave, and tell us where you will be when the parcel should arrive.
Is the date fixed? offers two answers: fixed, because it is an event, or flexible. A wedding or Eid is fixed; “some time this summer” is flexible. Choosing honestly matters, because a fixed date changes how we read the rest of your order.
What a date changes
A date turns a general quote into advice for your situation. In practice it affects:
- A straight answer on timing. Your quote’s processing time is checked against your date, and if it looks tight we say so before you pay.
- The design suggestions. When time is short, a simpler design is generally quicker to make, and we can suggest options.
- The order of steps. On Stitching Only, a fixed date is a reason to confirm and post your fabric quickly, because the making time starts when it reaches us.
- Seasonal pressure. The weeks before Eid are busy for everyone who stitches South Asian clothing, so a date in that period is worth raising in your very first message.
What a date cannot change
Making takes 5 to 7 working days from approval and full payment, and a fixed date does not move an order into a faster lane: we do not take rush orders. Shipping time is extra and varies by destination, and customs clearance and holidays sit outside anyone’s control. Our explainer on how the making time is counted sets out exactly when the clock starts.
So the date is information, not an instruction. It cannot buy speed, but it can stop you approving a plan that was never going to arrive in time.
Giving a date that helps
Leave a margin after the expected arrival for trying the outfit on and pressing it, and count backwards from there rather than from the event itself. If you have several events, give the earliest one. For Eid, our Eid occasions page has ideas, and sending your own fabric through Stitching Only works best with the date in hand from the first message.
Common questions
What if I do not have a date yet?
Choose flexible and give the month you are aiming for. You can tell us a firm date later, before you approve the quote.
Will a fixed date make my order more expensive?
No rush service is offered, so a date is not a surcharge. It changes the advice you get about timing and design, while the quote is worked out from the outfit itself.
Should I give the event date or a few days before?
Give the day you will wear it and say if you need it earlier, for example to travel. That keeps the date honest and lets us judge the timing properly.
