Why made to measure has no price list

Why custom stitching is quoted individually rather than from a price list: what changes the total, what the quote always includes, and how to compare quotes fairly.

Every outfit is quoted on its own

People often look for a stitching price list before they order. We do not publish one, because the things that decide the cost are different for almost every outfit: the garment and its pieces, who supplies the fabric, the lining, the design, any embellishment, and delivery and import charges to your country. A single list would either be wrong for most orders or padded to cover the worst case. Instead, you receive a written, individual quote with one total, before you pay anything. This guide explains what shapes that total, so you know what you are asking for and can compare like with like.

What shapes the total

  • The garment and pieces: a single kurta is a different job from a lined three-piece with a finished dupatta, or a full-length abaya.
  • Who supplies the fabric: on Fabric + Stitching, the agreed fabric is part of the price; on Stitching Only, you have already bought it.
  • How much fabric the design needs: wide flares, long sleeves and floor-length cuts take more than a straight hip-length kameez.
  • Construction: panels, pleats, gathers, a collar or a placket take more time than plain seams. See yokes and panels for examples.
  • Lining: whether the kameez, trousers or both are lined.
  • Embellishment: none, delicate (neckline or sleeves), detailed (neckline, sleeves and hem) or statement work for Eid and parties.
  • Delivery and import charges: these depend on your country and are included in the quote.

What every quote includes

Whatever the outfit, the written quote sets out the agreed design, fabric, measurements and any customisation, the total cost, the delivery arrangements, the processing time and the policies that apply. The total includes delivery to your address and any import duties, taxes and customs or courier fees, so nothing is added at the door. Our guide on what to look for in your written quote walks through checking it, and design approval explains how the details are agreed.

Our designs have their own prices

The exception is our ready designs. A design such as the tiered maxi dress shows its own price on its page, with delivery on top, because the design and fabric are already fixed. Browse our designs to see them. Any changes you ask for, and anything made from your own design, are quoted individually.

Getting a useful quote

A precise enquiry gives a precise quote. A few habits help:

  • Be specific: the garment, pieces, lengths, sleeves and trousers you want, with a reference photo.
  • Name the extras: lining, pockets, lace, borders or embroidery, so they are included from the start.
  • Say if you are undecided: for example, lined or unlined, delicate or detailed embroidery. Ask whether both options can be shown, so you can choose.
  • Give your country and city, since delivery and import charges depend on them.
  • List every outfit, if there is more than one. Several outfits can be set out in one quote, each with its own details, which makes it easier to see where the total comes from.

Comparing quotes fairly

If you are weighing our quote against another tailor’s, compare the full picture rather than the headline figure. Does the other quote include delivery to your door, and import duties and taxes, or will those be collected on arrival? Is fabric included? Is the lining? Is the dupatta finished? Are the measurements and design agreed in writing first? A lower number that leaves out delivery and customs is not really lower.

Customers in France and elsewhere can read how fancy work is quoted in the USA or in their own country, and our Fabric + Stitching service explains the supplied-fabric route. To see a real figure for your outfit, request a quote.

Common questions

Why don’t you publish stitching prices?

Because the cost depends on the garment, fabric, lining, design, embellishment and delivery to your country. A written, individual quote gives you an accurate total instead of a list that would not fit most orders.

Does the quote include delivery and customs?

Yes. The total includes delivery to your address and any import duties, taxes and customs or courier fees, so there is nothing to pay on delivery.

Does asking for a quote commit me to anything?

No. Nothing is made until you approve the written quote and pay in full, so you can read it, ask questions and decide.
