Quick answers

Ordering from France

The questions customers ask before their first order, answered for your country.

What can I order?

You can order made-to-measure women’s clothing: three-piece and two-piece shalwar kameez, kurtas and kameez, co-ords, Eid outfits, casual party wear and Western pieces such as dresses, skirts, tops and trousers. In France that might be a pared-back kurta and cigarette trousers for a Paris office, a loose lawn set for a Marseille summer or an embroidered suit for Eid.

Can I order just one suit?

Yes. Our minimum order is one suit, made to your agreed measurements and design. There are no free samples; instead, the fabric, cut and finishing are set out in your written quote, and you can ask as many questions as you need before approving it. A single suit for Eid is a perfectly normal order.

Can you provide the fabric?

Yes. With Fabric + Stitching, we supply the agreed fabric and make the outfit, so nothing has to be sent from France. Tell us the colour, weight and occasion, whether a fine cotton for a hot southern summer or something warmer for a grey Paris winter, and the fabric is agreed with you in writing before cutting.

Can I send my own fabric?

Yes, subject to fabric suitability and sufficient quantity. This is our Stitching Only service: your fabric travels from France to us in Pakistan, and the finished garment is then shipped to you, so there are two separate shipping stages. Please contact us to confirm the fabric, the quantity and the arrangements before you send anything, then use a tracked service, with La Poste or a courier, and an accurate customs declaration.

How do I submit my measurements?

Enter them on the quote form, in centimetres or inches. Centimetres are what a French mètre ruban shows, though inches are accepted too; just tell us which you used. A French size such as 38 or 40 cannot replace measurements, because it says nothing about your sleeve length or where a kameez should fall.

How are the design and fit agreed?

Design details and measurements are agreed with you in writing before anything is cut. Your quote sets out the neckline, sleeves, lengths, trouser style and any lining; because nobody measures you or tries the outfit on you in person, photos of a kameez that already fits you well are the most useful thing you can send.

Where is the clothing made?

Our garments are made in Pakistan and shipped internationally. There is no shop, atelier or production anywhere in France; your outfit is cut, stitched and finished in Pakistan and then sent to your address.

How are production time and shipping costs confirmed?

Production time and shipping costs are confirmed in your written quote, before you commit to anything. We do not publish standard timings or promise delivery dates, so if you need an outfit for Eid or a family occasion, tell us the date and the quote shows whether it looks realistic for delivery to France.

Who handles import charges?

We do. Your written quote includes delivery to your address in France and any import duties, taxes and customs fees, so there is nothing extra to pay when your parcel arrives. Parcels from outside the EU clear French customs, la douane (the DGDDI), where VAT (TVA in France) applies to all imported goods and a temporary flat EU customs duty now applies to low-value parcels, and both are covered in your quote.

How do I request a quote?

Use the Request a Custom Quote form at /quote?country=france, which opens with France already selected. Add your city, the garment, the quantity, Fabric + Stitching or Stitching Only, your measurements and photos of designs you like; your full delivery address is only needed once the order goes ahead.

Two ways to order

Our fabric, or yours

Both are made to your measurements. The minimum order is one suit, and we don’t offer free samples.

  • Fabric + Stitching

We supply the agreed fabric and make your outfit to your measurements. One parcel: the finished outfit shipped to you.

    • Fabric agreed with you before cutting
    • Minimum order one suit
    • No need to send anything
  • Stitching Only

You supply suitable fabric, such as an unstitched suit, and we cut, stitch and finish it.

    • Two shipping stages: your fabric to us in Pakistan, then the outfit to you
    • Confirm suitability and quantity before sending
    • Minimum order one suit

Stitching Only from France: from La Chapelle to Pakistan

Paris has a long-established South Asian shopping area in the 10th and 18th arrondissements. Around La Chapelle and along the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis, shops sell saris, suit lengths and trimmings, and the covered Passage Brady nearby is known for its Indian and Pakistani restaurants. For fabric by the metre, the Marché Saint-Pierre at the foot of Montmartre is one of the city’s best-known fabric districts. An unstitched three-piece ordered online or brought back from Pakistan works just as well, and all of it is what our unstitched suit stitching service is for.

Contact us before you post anything. Send daylight photos of each piece (our guide to photographing fabric for a quote shows how) so we can confirm the fabric suits your design and that there is enough of it. Once the arrangements are agreed, send the parcel to Pakistan by a tracked international service, through La Poste or a courier. Pakistan is outside the EU, so the parcel needs a customs declaration: describe the contents accurately, for example “unstitched cotton suit fabric, three pieces”, and give an honest value. How to post your fabric covers the packing.

The finished outfit then travels to you as a separate shipment, the second of the two stages, with delivery and import charges included in your quote. If you would rather post nothing, choose Fabric + Stitching and we supply the fabric.

Delivery to France: TVA, customs duty and la douane

Your outfit is shipped from Pakistan to your address in France, and the delivery method and its cost are set out in your written quote. Because the parcel comes from outside the EU, it passes through French customs, la douane (the Direction générale des douanes et droits indirects, or DGDDI), and EU import rules apply.

The European Commission explains that since 1 July 2021 all goods imported into the EU are subject to VAT, known in France as TVA; it is paid either through the seller’s registration in the EU’s Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS) or when the parcel is imported. From 1 July 2026 the EU also applies a temporary €3 customs duty for each category of goods on low-value parcels worth up to €150 from outside the EU, until 1 July 2028, and the previous €150 duty exemption has been abolished, as the Council of the EU confirmed. The courier that clears the parcel may add a handling fee of its own.

That is what applies to any parcel from outside the EU, and with us it is already included: your quote covers delivery to your address plus any TVA, customs duty and courier handling fees, so there is nothing extra to pay when your parcel arrives. If a courier ever asks you for payment on delivery, contact us before paying anything. The Europe overview and our guide to ordering from Europe cover the same rules across the EU.

French sizes, centimetres and the words you might search for

French labels run on their own scale: a French 38 is not a UK size, and it is not the same as a German 38 either, so a size tells us very little about how a kameez should sit on you. Measure in centimetres with the size guide and our measuring guide; if your tape is in inches, that works too. Our dress size comparison explains why labels mislead.

In French, made to measure is sur mesure and a dressmaker is a couturière, so people looking for this kind of service in France often search for couture sur mesure or a tenue pakistanaise sur mesure. A kurta is usually sold in French shops as a tunique, while the full outfit may be called a salwar kameez, a shalwar kameez, or simply a tenue pakistanaise or tenue indienne.

From Paris to Marseille: climate, work and Eid

France’s weather varies more than you might expect. Paris and the north have grey, damp winters and summers that can turn properly hot, so a cambric or linen kameez covers most of the year, with khaddar from November (winter fabrics compared). Around the Mediterranean, in Marseille and Nice, summers are long and hot, and loose lawn and cotton do the work (summer outfits for hot weather). Strasbourg and the east have colder winters, closer to Germany’s.

Parisian work dressing tends to be pared back: a few well-cut pieces in quiet colours. A knee-length kurta with slim cigarette trousers, or a plain co-ord, fits in easily, and Western dresses, skirts, tops and trousers can be made to measure too.

We have guides for Paris, Lyon, Marseille and Lille, and ordering works in the same way from Toulouse, Strasbourg or anywhere else in France. For Eid, start early and tell us your date, because Stitching Only means your fabric travelling to Pakistan and your outfit travelling to France; the Eid outfit timeline helps you plan. Neighbouring Belgium and Germany have their own pages, and when you are ready you can request a quote for France.

FAQ

More questions from France

Measuring guide: how to measure. The whole process: how ordering works.

Do you have a boutique or couturière in Paris?

No. There is no shop, atelier or couturière in France, and nobody measures you in person. Everything is ordered online: you send your measurements, we agree the design with you in writing, and your outfit is made in Pakistan and delivered to your address in France.

I wear a French 38. Can I just give you that?

Please give measurements instead. French sizes run on their own scale, different from both UK and German sizes, and they vary between brands, so a label tells us far less than a tape measure. The size guide shows every measurement we need, in centimetres or inches.

Can you stitch fabric I bought by the metre at the Marché Saint-Pierre?

Yes, subject to fabric suitability and sufficient quantity. Cotton, lawn, linen or silk bought by the metre can work well for a kurta, co-ord or kameez; tell us the length and width you have, send daylight photos, and we confirm before you post anything to Pakistan.
