Office wear for women in Saudi Arabia, made to measure
Office wear for women in Saudi Arabia: kurtas that sit neatly under an abaya, modest separates and co-ords, fabrics for air-conditioned days, and a weekly rotation.
InspirationWhat office wear in Saudi Arabia asks for
Good office wear for women in Saudi Arabia is modest, neat for a full day and comfortable in strong air conditioning. Some women wear an abaya over their work clothes, others wear long, covered separates on their own; follow your own workplace’s dress code. Either way, a made-to-measure kurta with straight trousers, a long tunic with wide trousers, or a matching co-ord gives you sleeves and hems at exactly the length you want, which is where ready-made workwear most often falls short.
We cut and stitch each piece to your measurements in Pakistan and courier it to you, so a work wardrobe can be ordered once and repeated whenever you need more. The Saudi Arabia page explains delivery, and our general guide to office-wear kurtas covers cuts in more depth.
Under an abaya at work
If the abaya stays on at your desk, what is underneath has to be invisible and comfortable for eight or nine hours.
- Slim, smooth sleeves that slide into the abaya sleeve without bunching at the elbow.
- A flat neckline, such as a round neck or a soft band collar, so nothing rides up at the abaya’s opening.
- A kameez that stops above the abaya hem, usually at the knee or mid-calf.
- Straight trousers or cigarette pants, which do not show beneath the abaya when you walk.
- Breathable cotton, because two layers are warmer than one on the walk from the car park.
Without an abaya: modest separates
Where long, modest separates are the norm, a long tunic or shirt over wide trousers looks professional and is easy to move in. A co-ord set in one colour reads as smart as a suit. Our button-front shirt dress is another option that can be made to measure with longer sleeves or a lower hem.
Pockets are a small detail that changes a working day, so if you want them, say so in your notes.
Fabrics for air-conditioned days
Offices, hospitals, banks and universities in the Kingdom are kept cool, so the thinnest summer lawn can feel chilly by mid-afternoon. Cambric is the classic answer: opaque, crisp and still breathable for the journey outside. Dobby and textured cottons hide creases well; our guide to dobby, slub and textured cotton explains them. Linen blends work for warmer workplaces, and a light shawl handles the rest.
Work clothes are washed far more often than party wear, so colour-fast fabric matters. If you are sending your own cloth, a quick colour-fastness test before posting it avoids a kurta that fades after a month. A full lining is rarely needed on an opaque cambric kurta, and leaving it out keeps the outfit cooler and less bulky under an abaya.
Building a five-day rotation
A simple way to plan is three kurtas or tunics and two pairs of trousers in colours that all combine, plus one co-ord for days with important meetings. Navy, charcoal, olive, maroon and soft neutrals mix well and look serious without being dull. Once your measurements are agreed, ordering more is straightforward, and you can repeat a cut you like in new fabric.
If you are on a campus as well as in an office, our work and campus ideas apply; customers around Dhahran often order this way.
Ordering your workwear
Start from a picture, a description, or one of our designs adjusted to your needs through customisation for Saudi Arabia. The customise quote form lets you change the neckline, sleeves, kameez length, trouser style and lining. You choose US dollars, euros or pounds sterling, the quote includes delivery and any import charges, and we make the order in 5 to 7 working days after you approve and pay in full.
Common questions
Can you make the same work kurta in several colours?
Yes. List each colour on one request and we quote them together, cut to the same measurements.
Do you make abayas for work as well?
Yes. Abayas are made to measure, and a plainer abaya for everyday wear can be quoted alongside the outfits you wear underneath.
Which fabric creases least for the office?
Cambric and textured cottons such as dobby tend to look neater through the day than fine lawn or linen. We can suggest fabric for your design if you choose Fabric + Stitching.
