Wedding guest outfits in Kuwait: start with the events

The right wedding guest outfit in Kuwait depends on which event you are going to. A Pakistani wedding usually spreads over several occasions, such as a mehndi, a nikah and a reception or walima, often held in a hall or hotel ballroom, and each has its own mood. If you are invited to a celebration for women only, which many weddings in Kuwait include, guests tend to dress up more than they would for a mixed event. Decide which events you will attend first, then plan one outfit per event or one that can be restyled.

We make women’s outfits to your measurements in Pakistan and courier them to your address in Kuwait, from Salmiya to Kuwait City.

Mehndi: colour and room to move

Mehndi evenings are the most relaxed and the most colourful. Yellows, greens, oranges and pinks are traditional, and you will probably sit on the floor, dance a little and stay late. Choose comfort first: a short or knee-length kurta over a flared trouser, or a long kameez with a soft dupatta.

A sharara or gharara makes a mehndi outfit feel special without heavy embellishment; our article on gharara and sharara explains how much fabric each needs. Cotton silk or a printed lawn with a bright dupatta works well, and you avoid worrying about henna stains on something precious.

Nikah and reception: polish without competing

For the nikah and the reception, guests usually move towards richer fabrics and calmer colours: jewel tones, pastels, ivory with gold, deep greens. The unwritten rule everywhere is not to compete with the couple, so very heavy red outfits are often avoided by guests.

  • Long silhouettes: a floor-length kalidar frock or a long straight kameez with cigarette pants reads as formal straight away.
  • Sheer layers: organza or net sleeves and dupattas add movement; see organza in outfits and net and lace fabrics.
  • A Western option: a flowing chiffon maxi such as our tiered maxi dress can be made to measure if you prefer a dress to a suit.
  • Winter receptions: in Kuwait’s cooler months, velvet shawls or a velvet kameez look rich in a ballroom and keep you warm on the way out.

Choosing the level of embellishment

On the quote form you can choose one of three levels of fancy work: delicate, on the neckline or sleeves; detailed, on the neckline, sleeves and hem; or statement, bolder work for Eid and parties. For a mehndi, delicate or detailed is usually plenty. For a reception, statement work on a plain fabric can look striking. We confirm in the written quote what is possible on your fabric and design.

If you have a photo of a particular look, send it. Fancy work for Kuwait explains embroidery, lace and borders, and specific techniques are something to ask about rather than assume.

Modest and practical details

A wedding is a long evening, so a few practical choices pay off:

  • Sleeves: full or three-quarter sleeves in a sheer fabric, lined to the elbow if you prefer more coverage.
  • Lining: organza, net and chiffon need it; decide how far down. See does my kameez need lining.
  • Hem length: measure with the shoes you will wear, so a long frock clears the floor.
  • Dupatta weight: a heavily bordered dupatta looks lovely in photos but slips; ask for a lighter one if you will be dancing.

Timing an order for a wedding

Wedding invitations usually arrive with some notice, so use it. Once your design and measurements are agreed and the quote is paid in full, we make the outfit in 5 to 7 working days, and courier time to Kuwait follows. If you are sending your own fabric through Stitching Only, add the time for it to reach us. Write the first event date on the form.

Your quote is issued in US dollars, euros or pounds, whichever you choose, and it includes delivery and any import charges, so nothing is due on arrival. When you have screenshots ready, start on the Kuwait design quote form, and see the Kuwait page for how ordering works.

Common questions

Can I order separate outfits for the mehndi and the reception?

Yes. Several outfits can be quoted together with one set of measurements, each with its own design, fabric and level of embellishment.

What should I wear to a mehndi as a guest?

Something colourful and comfortable that lets you sit on the floor and dance: a short or knee-length kurta with a sharara or gharara, or a printed lawn suit with a bright dupatta.

Can you copy an outfit I saw at a wedding in Kuwait?

We can make an outfit inspired by your photo, cut to your measurements. Send clear images and tell us what you like about it, and we agree every detail in writing before cutting.
