Eid ul-Adha outfit ideas: festive, practical and made to measure
Eid ul-Adha outfit ideas for women: festive but washable fabrics for a busy day of cooking and visiting, details that still look special, and when to order.
InspirationA different kind of Eid day
Eid ul-Adha (also written Eid al-Adha or Eid ul-Azha) often feels different from Eid ul-Fitr. For many families it is a long, busy, practical day: prayers in the morning, then cooking, sharing food, hosting and visiting relatives, sometimes over several days. The outfit needs to look festive for the visits and photos, and still cope with a kitchen.
It falls roughly ten weeks after Eid ul-Fitr and, like the rest of the Islamic calendar, moves about eleven days earlier each year, so it passes through every season. Check whether this year’s falls in warm or cool weather before you choose the fabric.
Outfit ideas
- Embroidered lawn or cotton three-piece: festive but washable, with a finished dupatta. The most practical choice for a warm Eid ul-Adha.
- A plain kurta with a statement dupatta: keep the kurta simple and washable, and let a printed, gota or embroidered dupatta carry the occasion. Take the dupatta off in the kitchen and put it back on for visitors.
- Cotton silk or jacquard: a subtle sheen that looks dressy in photos without the fragility of chiffon. See our cotton silk and raw silk guide and jacquard guide.
- Angrakha or kalidar kameez: a traditional shape that feels special. See kalidar and anarkali cuts and the angrakha style guide.
- Two outfits, not one: a comfortable everyday suit for the busy morning and a dressier one for evening visits. Many people find this easier than one outfit that tries to do both.
Practical details for a busy day
- Sleeves: three-quarter or elbow sleeves, or full sleeves with a cuff, so you can push them back to cook and serve.
- Colours: mid and deeper shades hide the odd splash better than white or pale pastels. If you love white, keep it for the visits and change for the kitchen.
- Colour fastness: check bright dyes before the day with our colour-fastness test, and keep our stain guide handy for afterwards.
- Embellishment placement: keep lace, gota and embroidery at the neckline and on the dupatta rather than at the cuffs, where it would get wet and stained.
- Trousers: a comfortable waist, and a length that clears the floor when you are moving about the house in flat shoes.
- Pockets: for a phone and keys when your hands are full of dishes. See adding pockets to kurtas.
Ordering for Eid ul-Adha
Many people plan hard for Eid ul-Fitr and leave the second Eid until the last minute, then find the tailor’s queue is long again. The easiest approach is to plan both Eids at the same time, with one set of measurements and, once we have confirmed what to send, one parcel of fabric, and give us a date for each outfit on the quote form.
We do not give delivery dates for Eid orders in advance. The timing for your order is confirmed in your written quote before you commit, so order as early as you can and tell us whether your date is fixed. Every outfit is shipped from Pakistan, and with Stitching Only, where you supply the fabric, allow for post in both directions. If time is tight, a simpler design is generally quicker to make, and our Eid planning timeline explains how to work backwards from the day.
Getting started
Send your fabric photos and design ideas through the stitching quote form, or choose Fabric + Stitching and tell us the colours and feel you want. Our Eid page has more ideas, and the custom stitching service explains the styles we make.
Common questions
What should I wear for Eid ul-Adha?
A festive but washable outfit usually works best, such as an embroidered lawn or cotton suit with a finished dupatta, because the day often involves cooking and visiting. In cooler weather, cotton silk, jacquard or karandi with a shawl is more comfortable.
When should I order an outfit for Eid ul-Adha?
As early as you can, ideally at the same time as your Eid ul-Fitr outfit. The timing for your order is confirmed in your written quote before you commit, and the weeks before each Eid are the busiest of the year.
Can I wear the same outfit for both Eids?
Yes, and a new dupatta or a change of trousers makes it feel different the second time. If the two Eids fall in different weather, choose a fabric that works for both, or add a shawl for cooler days.
