Ordering made-to-measure stitching from the USA
How ordering a made-to-measure shalwar kameez from the USA works: measuring in inches, sending fabric, a quote in dollars, and delivery with import charges included.
InspirationMade in Pakistan, shipped to your US address
Finding a tailor who understands a kameez neckline or a shalwar cuff can be hard in much of the USA. The Gilded Seam makes every outfit in Pakistan and takes orders from across the United States online, by message and by post: there is no US shop, studio or fitting room. You tell us what you want, we quote in writing, we stitch to your measurements in Pakistan, and the finished outfit is shipped to your address.
This guide covers the parts that are different when you order from the USA. The full picture is on our USA page.
Measurements in inches, not a US size
Measure in inches if that is what your tape shows. The stitching quote form lets you choose inches or centimetres, so there is no need to convert. Keep every measurement in the same unit, and read our guide to measuring in inches or centimetres if you are unsure.
Please give body measurements rather than a US dress size. US and UK sizes are numbered differently, Pakistani and Indian brands use their own charts, and the standard sizes on our form are UK sizes. Our UK, EU and US sizes guide explains why a size label is a poor guide for a kameez. If you have a kameez that fits well, you can measure that instead; see using a kameez that fits as a template.
Sending fabric, or letting us source it
If you would rather not post anything, choose Fabric + Stitching: we supply the agreed fabric, it is included in the quote, and the only parcel is the finished outfit on its way to you.
If you are supplying an unstitched suit or fabric (Stitching Only), there are two separate shipping stages: your fabric travels to us in Pakistan, and the finished outfit is shipped to you. Send daylight photos first. Before you post anything, we confirm that the fabric is suitable, that there is enough for the design, and how and where to send it. When you post it:
- Use a tracked international service and keep the tracking number.
- Complete the customs declaration accurately: describe the contents plainly and give their real value.
- Put your name and quote reference inside the parcel.
- Send only the pieces that are being stitched or finished.
- Pack it so it arrives clean and dry; our guide to posting your fabric for stitching explains how.
Paying in dollars, with import charges included
From the USA, you choose whether your quote is written in US dollars (USD), euros (EUR) or pounds sterling (GBP); tell us which when you ask for a quote, and your quote explains how to pay. If you are paying from a US card or bank account, dollars are usually the simplest choice, because nothing needs converting. If you choose pounds or euros instead, your card issuer or bank converts the amount into dollars at its own rate, and some add a foreign transaction fee; that depends on your provider, so check with them. Our guide to paying from abroad in pounds, euros or dollars explains more.
Your finished outfit is shipped from Pakistan, and US rules for parcels from abroad have changed: duty-free de minimis treatment is suspended for shipments from all countries, so imports of any value can be subject to duties, taxes and fees (see the CBP fact sheet and the 2026 order continuing it). With us, those charges are already covered: your written quote includes delivery to your US address and any import duties, taxes and customs fees, so there is nothing extra to pay when your parcel arrives. We do not give figures here, because they depend on your order. If a courier ever asks you for payment on delivery, contact us before paying anything.
Timing an international order
With Stitching Only, there are two separate shipping stages, your fabric to Pakistan and the finished outfit back to you, so start early, especially for Eid. Production time and shipping costs are confirmed in your written quote before you commit, and delivery dates cannot be guaranteed; give your date on the form and say whether it is fixed.
Our guide to planning ahead explains why earlier is easier, and the first order checklist helps you gather everything before you start. The custom stitching service shows the styles we make.
