Embroidered kurtas made to measure, from desk to dinner
How to order an embroidered kurta made to measure: work for office, weekend or occasion wear, neckline and cuff ideas, fabrics and what to put in your quote.
InspirationOne kurta, many lives
The kurta is the hardest-working piece in many wardrobes: worn with jeans on a Saturday, with straight trousers at the office and with a dupatta for a family dinner. An embroidered kurta made to measure can be designed to move between those settings, because you decide how much embroidery it carries and where. We cut it to your measurements, add the agreed work, and ship it to you from Pakistan.
The trick is to match the embroidery to the life the kurta will actually lead, not just the occasion you are picturing when you order.
For work and everyday
For a kurta you will wear weekly, keep the work small and flat. A fine border around the neckline, a line along the placket or a narrow band above the cuffs adds interest without looking dressy in a meeting. Tone-on-tone thread, white on white or navy on navy, is especially easy to wear. Our office-wear kurta guide covers cuts and fabrics for work.
Think about practicalities. Work at the cuffs meets keyboards and desks, so a band slightly above the edge wears better. Dense work at the centre front can feel stiff under a blazer or coat.
Neckline and placket ideas
The neckline is where an embroidered kurta usually starts. Some combinations that work well:
- A round neck with a slit, with the slit outlined in a fine border.
- A band collar with small motifs along the collar and placket.
- A V-neck with a tapering border that narrows towards the point.
- A buttoned placket with work either side; our plackets and buttons guide has fastening ideas.
Stepping up for occasions
For gatherings and Eid, a kurta can carry the detailed level: neckline, sleeves and hem worked together. Paired with a matching trouser and a light dupatta, it becomes an occasion outfit without the formality of a full three-piece suit. A longer kurta with a worked hem looks especially elegant with straight trousers.
If you want one kurta that does both, choose delicate work in a slightly richer thread. It looks quiet with jeans and lifts with jewellery and a dupatta.
Sleeve length plays a part as well. Embroidery at the end of a three-quarter sleeve shows off a bracelet and stays clear of your hands, while full sleeves put the work right at the wrist, where it is seen every time you reach for something. Short sleeves suit a band of work just above the edge, which also keeps the opening neat.
Fabric choices
Cotton, lawn and cambric are reliable everyday bases that take light embroidery well; the cambric guide explains why cambric suits work kurtas. Linen gives a relaxed, textured look. For richer occasion kurtas, a fabric with a little more body supports the extra work without puckering.
With Fabric + Stitching we supply the agreed fabric, and you can ask us to suggest one that suits the embroidery level; start that route with a Fabric + Stitching quote. With Stitching Only, send photos of your own fabric first.
What to put in your quote
Choose kurta or kameez on the stitching quote form, pick a level, and note your preferred length and sleeve, the neckline, and where the embroidery should sit. Add a photo of work you like. If you are in Germany, the Germany fancy work page explains ordering and quote currency from there. Our custom embroidery service describes how the work is planned and confirmed. Production is 5 to 7 working days once the quote is approved and paid in full, and shipping is separate.
Common questions
Can I order just one embroidered kurta?
Yes. Single-piece custom orders are accepted, so one kurta with embroidery is a perfectly normal order.
Is embroidery on a work kurta a good idea?
Light, flat work such as a fine neckline border or a band above the cuffs suits office wear well. Keep dense or raised work for occasion kurtas.
Will the embroidery survive regular washing?
Light, flat work on cotton or cambric generally copes well with gentle washing, inside out. Tell us how you plan to wash the kurta and we will suggest a level and placement that suits that routine.
Can I order several kurtas with different embroidery?
Yes. List each kurta in your enquiry with its fabric, level and placement, and we quote them together using one set of measurements.
