A tailor nearby or online tailoring: an honest comparison

Both have a place, and many women use both for different jobs.

• A tailor in your neighbourhood lets you try the garment on part-way through and make small changes in person. It suits you if you enjoy that process and have the time for return visits.
• Online tailoring from Pakistan lets you order from your sofa at any hour, send a screenshot instead of explaining it at a counter, and receive the finished outfit at home. The design and measurements are agreed in writing instead of at a try-on.
• Changes to clothes you already own are a job for a tailor near you. We only make new outfits, and we do not alter ready-made garments.
• Fabric you already own can go either way. A tailor down the road is convenient, while our Stitching Only service for the UAE means sending it to Pakistan after we confirm it.

What replaces the try-on

Without an in-person try-on, accuracy comes from three things. First, your measurements: our size guide shows where each one is taken, and our measuring help page covers the tricky ones. Second, a garment you already like: measuring a kameez that sits well on you, as described in using a kameez that fits as your template, gives useful finished lengths and widths. Third, the written agreement: before anything is cut we confirm the neckline, sleeves, lengths, trouser style, lining and any embroidery, and ask about anything unclear.

If the finished outfit does not match the agreed measurements or design because of our mistake, we correct or remake it without charging for the work. Report it quickly after delivery, and note that the postage both ways is yours to cover.

What you can have made

Three-piece and two-piece shalwar kameez, kurtas and kameez, co-ords, Eid outfits, casual party wear that is dressed up without being heavy, abayas, and Western pieces such as dresses, skirts, tops and trousers. You can send your own design as a photo, sketch or written description, or start from our designs and change the parts that do not suit you.

A single piece is fine. Plenty of customers start with one everyday kurta to see how the fit comes out before ordering for an occasion.

Briefing an online tailor well

A clear brief does the job a long chat at the counter would do.

• Send the clearest photo you have, plus a second angle if the back or sleeves matter.
• Say what you want kept and what you want changed: “this neckline, but full sleeves and a longer hem”.
• Tell us how you will wear it: under an abaya, at the office, at an outdoor dinner.
• Mention anything about your shape that ready-made clothes get wrong, such as narrow shoulders or a long torso.
• Put the event date in your notes if there is one.

Timing and what you pay

Your quote is written and individual, issued in US dollars, euros or pounds sterling as you choose, and it already includes delivery to your address and any customs duty, VAT and courier fees in the UAE. You pay in full once you have approved it. We then make the outfit in 5 to 7 working days, and courier time comes on top. For Stitching Only, the making time starts when your fabric reaches us.
