Pakistani clothes in the USA: three ways to buy
Buying Pakistani clothes in the USA? Compare ready-to-wear, unstitched suits and made-to-measure stitching, and see which route suits your fit, timing and budget.
InspirationThree routes to Pakistani clothes in the USA
If you want Pakistani clothes in the USA, you have three realistic options: buy a ready-to-wear (pret) outfit, buy an unstitched suit and have it stitched, or order a garment made to your measurements from scratch. Ready-to-wear is the quickest, an unstitched suit gives you a particular print with the cut of your choice, and made to measure gives you the closest fit and the most say over the design.
Which one makes sense depends on three questions: how much the fit matters to you, how specific the fabric or print is, and how much time you have before you need to wear it. This guide walks through each route honestly, including where ours fits in.
Ready-to-wear: fast, but cut for someone else
Pret is what most people picture first: a finished kurta or three-piece suit from a boutique in a desi shopping street, a pop-up stall at a mela, or a Pakistani brand’s website that ships to the US. You see the finished look, and you can wear it the week it arrives.
The catch is the size chart. Pakistani pret is usually cut on a small, medium and large block with a set kameez length and sleeve, so the outfit fits the body the brand had in mind. If you are tall, petite, curvy, or simply between sizes, you may end up looking for a tailor near you to take it in, let it out or shorten it, and some changes are not possible once a border or a lace hem has been cut. Our guide to brand size charts vs made-to-measure explains why.
Unstitched suits: the print you love, the cut you choose
Unstitched suits are sold as lengths of shirt fabric, dupatta and trouser fabric, often with embroidered neckline pieces and borders. You can find them in South Asian shopping areas such as Devon Avenue in Chicago or Jackson Heights in New York, and many brands sell them online. If you are new to them, read what an unstitched set means before you buy.
The difficulty in much of the US is finding someone to stitch them well. That is the gap our stitching service for US customers covers: you send us the suit in Pakistan after we have confirmed it is suitable, we cut and stitch it to your measurements, and ship the finished outfit back to you.
Made to measure from Pakistan
With Fabric + Stitching, we supply the agreed fabric and make the whole outfit, so you do not need to own or post anything. It suits people who know the style they want but have no particular suit in mind, or who live far from any desi shop. Our Fabric + Stitching page for the USA covers it in detail.
Either way, everything happens online. There is no store, studio or try-on anywhere in the US; you measure yourself (in inches is fine), the design and measurements are agreed in a written quote before anything is cut, and production takes 5 to 7 working days once the quote is approved and paid in full. Shipping time is separate and varies, and the quote includes delivery and any US import duties, taxes and fees, so there is nothing to pay when the parcel arrives. The design approval guide shows what gets agreed.
Which route suits you?
A few common situations, and the route that usually fits them:
- You need an outfit for this weekend: ready-to-wear is the only practical choice. Made to measure from Pakistan needs production time plus shipping.
- You already own an unstitched suit, or love one particular print: have it stitched, using Stitching Only.
- Sizes never fit you well: made to measure, from your own fabric or ours, because the pattern starts from your body rather than a chart.
- You have a picture of exactly what you want: send it as your design; see custom design for US customers.
- You are buying several outfits for Eid or a wedding: list them in one enquiry so they share one set of measurements and one quote.
Getting started from anywhere in the US
Whether you are in a city with a big South Asian community, like Chicago or New York, or somewhere with no desi shops at all, ordering works the same way. The USA page sums it up, and when you are ready you can request a quote from the USA with your garment, measurements and a few pictures of what you like.
Common questions
Is made to measure better than ready-to-wear?
It depends on what matters to you. Ready-to-wear is quicker and you see the finished piece first. Made to measure takes longer but is cut to your own measurements and design, which helps most if standard sizes rarely fit you.
Can I buy an unstitched suit in the US and have you stitch it?
Yes. Send us photos first; once we confirm the fabric is suitable and there is enough of it, you post it to us in Pakistan, we stitch it to your measurements and ship the finished outfit back to your US address.
Do you have a shop in the USA?
No. Everything is made in Pakistan and arranged online. There is no store, studio or try-on in the US, so measurements and design details are agreed in writing before cutting.
