Nairobi: mild days, cool evenings

Nairobi sits high above sea level, so days are pleasant and evenings can be surprisingly cool, especially from June to August. The long rains around March to May and the short rains later in the year bring damp, grey spells. A practical Nairobi wardrobe is mostly cotton and cambric kurtas with straight trousers, with a light cardigan, waistcoat or shawl for the evening.

Three-quarter sleeves are a comfortable everyday choice; the three-quarter sleeves page shows the shape. For evening events, a lined cotton silk keeps you warm enough without needing heavy winter fabrics.

The coast: heat and humidity

Mombasa and the coast are hot and humid all year. Fine lawn and soft cotton, relaxed cuts and light colours are the comfortable choice, with a thin lining only where coverage needs it. Kisumu, by Lake Victoria, is warm as well, so the same thinking applies.

On the coast, many women dress modestly in the heat. Full sleeves in a fine fabric, a longer kameez with side slits for movement, and a dupatta you can drape over your head are all easy to specify. Sending fabric from Kenya

If you have an unstitched suit, Stitching Only means two separate shipments: your fabric to us in Pakistan, then the finished outfit back to you. Currency, payment and timing

The quote currency for Kenya is agreed per enquiry. Payment is made in full in advance by bank transfer, Wise or a card payment link, and the written quote includes delivery and any import duties, taxes and customs or courier fees, so there is nothing to pay on arrival. We do not describe Kenyan import rules.
