Send your own design from the US: picture to outfit
How US customers turn a sketch, reference photo or written idea into a made-to-measure outfit: fusion ideas, what a picture shows, fabric and written approval.
InspirationYour idea, made to your measurements
To have your own design made from the US, you send us a sketch, a reference photo or a written description, together with your measurements. We look at what is possible on your fabric or ours, set out the agreed design in a written quote, and only cut once you have approved and paid. The finished outfit is made in Pakistan and shipped to your US address.
We call this Send Your Design, and it works for Pakistani clothes, Western pieces, and the many mixtures of the two that US wardrobes are full of. The custom design page for the USA has the summary; this guide is about getting the most from it.
Three ways to describe a design
Send Your Design accepts any of these, and you can combine them. The clearer the brief, the fewer questions there are before the quote, but nothing has to be perfect.
- Your own sketch: a phone photo of a drawing is fine. Label the details: neckline depth, sleeve length, where the slits start, the kameez length.
- A reference photo: a screenshot from social media, a wedding photo or a shop picture. Say what you like about it, because we cannot guess whether it is the sleeve, the colour or the whole look.
- Written requirements: sometimes words are enough, for example a knee-length straight kurta with a V-neck, three-quarter sleeves and cigarette pants.
Fusion ideas from US wardrobes
Plenty of US wardrobes mix desi and Western pieces. A few combinations that work well made to measure:
- A long kurta with a flared midi skirt instead of trousers.
- A Western maxi dress with a kameez-style neckline and full sleeves for modest wear.
- A short embroidered kurti cut to sit over wide-leg jeans.
- A co-ord with a shirt-style top in a printed lawn.
- An angrakha wrap front on a dress rather than a kameez.
What a picture can and cannot tell us
Photos are brilliant for shape and proportion, less so for fabric and colour. A dress that drapes softly in the picture may be in a fabric very different from the one you plan to use, and colours shift between screens. We read the picture as inspiration and interpret it in your fabric and measurements; we do not promise an exact copy of another label’s piece.
Embroidery is the other area to check. Embellishment is offered at delicate, detailed or statement level on outfits we stitch, and specific techniques are not promised; ask for what you see in the picture and we confirm what is possible in your quote. The design approval guide explains how the details are agreed.
Your fabric or ours
If you already have fabric in mind, perhaps an unstitched suit bought in Houston or online, we can stitch your design from it once we have confirmed it is suitable and sufficient. If not, choose Fabric + Stitching and we propose fabric that suits the design; see choosing fabric.
Tell us how and where you will wear it, too. A picture taken at an outdoor summer party suggests a very different fabric weight from the same design worn to a winter dawat in Chicago, and the right choice depends on your life, not the photograph.
Or start from one of our designs
If you like one of our designs but want it a little different, customising is often quicker than designing from scratch. You can change the pieces, neckline, sleeves, kameez length, trouser style, lining or embroidery level, and the changes are confirmed in writing.
Either way, start with Send Your Design and attach your pictures. The USA page covers measurements, shipping and import charges.
Common questions
Can you combine a Pakistani and a Western style in one outfit?
Yes. Fusion pieces, such as a long kurta with a skirt or a maxi dress with a kameez-style neckline, can be made to measure. Describe or picture what you want and we confirm the details in your quote.
Can you make a dress from a photo I found online?
Yes, as inspiration. We interpret the design in your fabric and measurements and confirm the details in a written quote. We do not promise an exact copy of another brand’s piece.
Do I need to draw a proper sketch?
No. A rough drawing with labels, a screenshot or a clear written description is enough to start. We ask about anything that is unclear before quoting.
Can my own design include embroidery?
Yes, as embellishment on the outfit we stitch, at delicate, detailed or statement level. What is possible on your fabric and design is confirmed in your written quote.
