Wedding guest outfits for UAE weddings
What to wear as a guest at a Pakistani wedding in the UAE: mehndi, nikah and reception outfits, hotel ballrooms and outdoor winter venues, and ordering in time.
InspirationDressing as a guest, not the centre of attention
A good wedding guest outfit for a Pakistani wedding in the UAE is festive, comfortable for a long evening and suited to the venue, which might be a hotel ballroom with fierce air conditioning, a family villa or an outdoor lawn in the cooler months. It should look celebratory without competing with the couple and their families. Colour, cut and a sensible amount of embellishment do most of the work; you do not need the heaviest outfit in the room to look right.
We make Eid outfits and party wear for guests, dressed up without being heavy. We do not make outfits for the bride herself.
Mehndi, nikah and reception: what each event asks for
- Mehndi or dholki: the most relaxed and colourful event. Bright yellows, greens, pinks and oranges are traditional, and you may be sitting on the floor or dancing, so a gharara or sharara or a flared kameez with room to move is ideal.
- Nikah: often more formal and sometimes held in a mosque or at home. Softer colours, full or three-quarter sleeves and a dupatta that covers the head comfortably suit the occasion.
- Reception or walima: the dressiest evening for most guests, usually in a hotel. Deeper jewel tones, a longer silhouette and more work at the neckline, sleeves and hem look right here.
Venues in the Emirates
Hotel ballrooms in Dubai and Abu Dhabi are often cold, and you may be there for several hours. A lined kameez, longer sleeves and a fuller dupatta keep you comfortable. Outdoor weddings tend to be held in the cooler months, when evenings by the sea or in the desert can turn surprisingly chilly; a heavier fabric, or a shawl that works with the outfit, is worth planning.
For a villa or family home event, comfort matters most: trousers you can sit cross-legged in, sleeves that stay out of the food, and a dupatta that does not slide off every time you stand.
Choosing fabric and embellishment
Chiffon, organza, cotton silk and jacquard are all popular for weddings because they catch the light. Chiffon and organza need lining to be opaque, and they are warmer than they look, so they suit indoor evenings better than a hot afternoon. Our organza guide and cotton silk and raw silk guide explain how each fabric behaves.
Our fancy work for the UAE goes from delicate work at the neckline or sleeves up to bolder statement work for parties, plus lace and borders. A wedding guest outfit usually sits at the detailed or statement level. Send a reference photo of the work you like; what is possible on your fabric and design is confirmed in your written quote.
Ordering for a wedding date
Weddings come with a fixed date, so plan backwards. You request a quote, agree the design and measurements in writing, approve and pay in full, and then we make the outfit in 5 to 7 working days in Pakistan. Courier time to your address in the UAE is added after that. If you are sending your own fabric with Stitching Only, there is an extra shipping stage at the start, and the making days begin when your fabric reaches us.
Put the wedding date in your notes on the UAE quote form. If you have several events, describe each outfit separately on one request so they are quoted together.
A few guest etiquette reminders
- Avoid the colour the bride is expected to wear if the family has mentioned it, which is often red for the main event.
- Ask the host whether there is a colour theme for the mehndi; many families choose one.
- Keep shoulders and arms covered for the nikah if it is held in a mosque.
- Choose shoes before you send measurements, so the kameez and trouser lengths suit the heel height.
Common questions
Can you make an outfit for a wedding I am attending in Dubai?
Yes, as a guest. We make party wear and Eid outfits that are dressed up without being heavy. Put the wedding date on your quote request and allow for courier time after the 5 to 7 working days of making.
What is a good mehndi outfit for a guest?
Something colourful and easy to move in, such as a flared kameez with a gharara or sharara, in a bright shade like yellow, green or pink. Ask the host if there is a colour theme.
Do you make outfits for brides?
No. We make outfits for wedding guests and for Eid and parties, but not for the bride herself.
