Suits from Martim Moniz, or from home
The streets climbing away from Martim Moniz, Rua do Benformoso above all, are the city’s best-known South Asian corner, full of grocers and small shops run by families from Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan. Whether your unstitched suit came from there, from an online order or from a suitcase after a trip to Lahore, Stitching Only in Portugal turns it into an outfit cut to you.
Take pictures of each piece by a window, send them with your quote request, and hold on to the parcel until we confirm the fabric works for your design and there is enough. You then post it to Pakistan yourself with a tracked service and an honest customs description.
Dressing for the hills and the river breeze
Summers here are hot and dry, softened by a breeze off the Atlantic and the river, so cotton lawn in an easy A-line works from June to September. For the hills, ask for side slits high enough to take the steps of Alfama in your stride, and a trouser length that clears your shoes on wet cobbles.
Winters are mild but rainy, and older Lisbon flats can feel chilly indoors in January, when a cambric kurta with a light lining earns its keep.
Offices, campuses and June evenings
For a desk at an office or a seat in a lecture hall at the University of Lisbon, a mid-thigh kurta with cigarette trousers is easy to wear every day. In June, when the city celebrates the Santos Populares with street parties and grilled sardines, a cotton co-ord with a light dupatta suits a long evening outdoors. Is there anywhere in Lisbon I can be measured?
No. There is no shop, studio or tailor of ours in Lisbon. You measure at home in centimetres or inches with the size guide, and we check the numbers with you in writing before cutting.
Can my outfit go to Cascais, Sintra or Almada?
Yes. It is delivered to the address you give when the order goes ahead, anywhere in and around Lisbon, and the delivery and any import charges are already in your written quote.
