Made-to-Measure Women’s Clothing Delivered to Portugal
Lisbon’s steep cobbled hills, Porto’s rainy winters and the long, bright summers of the Algarve ask quite different things of a wardrobe. The Gilded Seam cuts and stitches women’s clothing to your own measurements in Pakistan and ships it to your address in Portugal, whether that is a flat in Lisbon, a house outside Braga or an address on Madeira or the Azores. We have no shop, studio or tailor anywhere in Portugal. You order online, every detail is agreed in writing, and you decide whether we supply the fabric or you send your own.

Ordering from Portugal
The questions customers ask before their first order, answered for your country.
What can I order?
Made-to-measure women’s clothing: three-piece and two-piece shalwar kameez, kurtas and kameez, co-ords, Eid outfits, casual party wear and Western pieces such as dresses, skirts, tops and trousers. Send your own design, a reference photo or written requirements, or customise one of our designs. In Portugal that is often a cotton kurta for a Lisbon office or a lined kameez for a damp northern winter.
Can I order just one suit?
Yes. One suit is our minimum, and a single piece cut to your own measurements is welcome. We do not send free samples; instead your quote comes with photos and descriptions of the fabric we propose, so you can decide before paying anything.
Can you provide the fabric?
Yes. With Fabric + Stitching we supply the agreed fabric and make the outfit, so nothing has to leave Portugal. Fabric only comes as part of an outfit we make; we do not sell it on its own. Tell us the feel you are after, airy lawn for a Lisbon August or something warmer for a wet January in Porto, and it is agreed in writing before cutting.
Can I send my own fabric?
Yes, subject to fabric suitability and sufficient quantity. With Stitching Only you post your fabric from Portugal to us in Pakistan, and the finished outfit comes back to you as a second, separate shipment. Before you send anything, share photos so we can confirm the fabric, the amount and how it should travel. You arrange that first shipment yourself.
How do I submit my measurements?
Type them into the quote form in centimetres or inches, keeping to one unit throughout. Centimetres match the tape measures sold in Portugal, and the size guide shows exactly where each measurement is taken. If you would like help, ask for measurement guidance on the form and we talk you through it on WhatsApp.
How are the design and fit agreed?
In writing, before any cutting. Your quote lists the neckline, sleeves, kameez length, trouser style, lining and any embroidery alongside your measurements, and nothing starts until you approve it. Nobody measures you in Portugal, so tell us how you like a kameez to sit: neat through the shoulders, easy through the body, or both.
Where is the clothing made?
In Pakistan. Every outfit is cut, stitched, finished and checked there, then shipped to Portugal. We have no production, shop or studio in Portugal.
How long does it take, and what does shipping cost?
Making takes 5 to 7 working days, counted from when your quote is approved and paid in full, or for Stitching Only from when your fabric reaches us. Shipping to Portugal is added on top of that time and varies, and its cost is already in your written quote. If you are ordering for Eid or a family event, put the date on the form so we can tell you whether it looks realistic.
Who handles import charges?
We do. Your written quote includes delivery to your address in Portugal and any import duties, taxes and customs or courier fees, so nothing more is due when the parcel arrives. Portugal is in the EU, where goods coming from outside the EU are subject to VAT (IVA in Portugal) and a temporary flat EU customs duty now applies to low-value parcels; both sit inside your quote.
How do I request a quote?
Use the Request a Custom Quote form, which opens with Portugal already selected. Add your city, the garment, the quantity, Fabric + Stitching or Stitching Only, and your design photos or the name of one of our designs. We reply with a written total in euros, US dollars or pounds sterling, whichever you choose, and once you approve it you pay in full by bank transfer, Wise or a card payment link.

Posting your fabric from Portugal for Stitching Only
Unstitched suits reach Portugal in a few ways: packed in a suitcase after a family trip to Pakistan, ordered online from Pakistani brands, or found in the small South Asian shops around Martim Moniz and Rua do Benformoso in Lisbon. Whichever way yours came, our unstitched suit stitching service turns it into a finished outfit, and the Stitching Only page for Portugal goes into the detail.
Please do not post anything until we have seen it. Send daylight photos of every piece, with lengths if you know them, and we confirm that the fabric suits your design, that there is enough of it, and how it should travel. You then book the parcel to Pakistan yourself, through CTT or a courier, with a tracked service, an honest description of the contents and an honest value on the customs declaration. Keep the tracking number until we tell you it has arrived. How to post your fabric for stitching covers packing.
That is the first of two shipping stages. The finished outfit then travels back to you as its own shipment, and that parcel is the one that clears Portuguese customs, with its delivery and import charges already in your quote. Prefer to post nothing? Fabric + Stitching means we supply the fabric instead.
Delivery to Portugal: IVA, the EU duty and courier fees
Your outfit is shipped from Pakistan, outside the EU, so it is cleared through customs on arrival in Portugal, where customs sits with the Autoridade Tributária e Aduaneira. Your written quote sets out the production time, the delivery method and its cost, and includes any import duties, taxes and customs or courier fees on the parcel.
The European Commission explains that since 1 July 2021 all goods imported into the EU are subject to VAT, known in Portugal as IVA; when a seller is not registered for the Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS), it is paid on import. In addition, from 1 July 2026 until 1 July 2028 the EU charges a temporary €3 customs duty per tariff line on low-value consignments worth up to €150 from outside the EU, replacing the old €150 duty exemption, as the Council of the EU confirmed.
None of that is left for you to settle. IVA, the EU duty and any courier handling fee are in the quote you approve, so there is nothing to pay at the door, and if a courier ever asks you for money, contact us before paying. We do not give tax advice; the Europe overview and ordering from Europe cover the EU rules more widely.
Portuguese sizes and the words people search for
Clothes in Portuguese shops carry continental size numbers such as 36, 38 and 40, and the same number fits differently from one brand to the next. A label also tells us nothing about your arm length or where you want a kameez to fall, so we always work from a tape measure. The size guide shows each measurement, and UK, EU and US dress sizes for a kameez explains why labels mislead.
In Portuguese, made to measure is à medida or por medida, a seamstress is a costureira, and a dressmaker is a modista, so people in Portugal looking for this kind of service often search for roupa à medida or a costureira near them. The outfit itself usually keeps its own name, shalwar kameez or salwar kameez, and a kurta is often called a túnica.
Atlantic weather, from the Minho to the Algarve
Portugal is a long, narrow country facing the Atlantic, and the weather changes as you travel. The north, around Porto and Braga, has green hills, mild summers and a great deal of winter rain, so a lined kameez, full sleeves and a warmer fabric such as karandi earn their place. Inland towns such as Coimbra get properly hot in summer and chilly in winter.
Lisbon and the south are sunnier and drier, with hot summers and mild, wet winters, which makes lawn and fine cotton the everyday choice for much of the year. Older Portuguese houses are often cool inside in winter, so even in the south a cambric kurta with a light lining is worth having. Our summer outfits for hot weather and winter fabrics guide help with choosing.
For Eid, start early and tell us your date, particularly with Stitching Only, where the fabric travels to Pakistan before the outfit travels back. Spain has its own page, and when you are ready you can request a quote for Portugal.

More questions from Portugal
Measuring guide: how to measure. The whole process: how ordering works.
Do you have a shop or tailor in Lisbon or Porto?
No. There is no shop, studio or tailor of ours anywhere in Portugal, and nobody measures you in person. You measure at home, we agree the design with you in writing, and the outfit is made in Pakistan and delivered to your address.
Can you deliver to Madeira or the Azores?
Yes. The finished outfit goes to the address you give when the order goes ahead, on the mainland or on the islands. The delivery and any import charges are set out in your written quote before you pay.
Can my quote be in euros?
Yes. Customers in Portugal choose euros, US dollars or pounds sterling, and the written quote is issued in that currency. Payment is made in full, in advance, by bank transfer, Wise or a card payment link.
