Made-to-measure Pakistani suits in the UK: a buyer’s guide

How made-to-measure Pakistani suits work when you live in the UK: when it beats ready-to-wear, the two service routes, what to decide and what a GBP quote covers.

Made-to-measure Pakistani suits in the UK, in brief

A made-to-measure Pakistani suit is cut from your own body measurements instead of a size label, so the shoulders, sleeves, kameez length and trousers are set for you before the fabric is touched. With The Gilded Seam, the outfit is made in Pakistan and delivered to your UK address. You order online, from a single suit, and you agree the design and measurements in writing before anything is cut. There is no shop or showroom in the UK, which keeps the whole process in one place: your inbox.

This guide is for anyone in the UK weighing up how to buy their next shalwar kameez, kurta or co-ord, and what to have ready if made to measure is the answer.

Three ways to buy, and where each one fits

Most UK wardrobes hold a mix of all three, and each has its place.

  • Ready-to-wear (pret): bought from a UK shop or a brand’s website in S, M or L. Quick and easy when a brand’s sizing happens to match your shape, frustrating when it does not.
  • Unstitched packs: the printed or embroidered three-piece suits sold on shopping streets and online. You choose the design, then someone has to cut and stitch it. Our guide to stitched vs unstitched explains the difference.
  • Made to measure: the cut, the lengths and the details follow your numbers and your brief. It suits anyone between sizes, petite or tall, or simply tired of altering what they buy.

Our fabric or yours: the two routes

[Fabric + Stitching](/locations/uk/services/fabric-and-stitching): we supply the agreed fabric and make the outfit, so nothing has to leave the UK. Tell us the colour, the feel and the occasion, and the fabric is confirmed with you before cutting. This is the simpler route when you have a look in mind but no material yet.

[Stitching Only](/locations/uk/services/stitching): you already own the fabric, perhaps a brand pack from a sale or dress material from a shop in Southall, and we cut and stitch it. This route has two shipping stages, your parcel to Pakistan and the finished outfit back to you, and we confirm that the fabric is suitable and sufficient before you post anything.

What to decide before you ask for a quote

You do not need every answer on day one, and you can tick “advise me” on the form, but the more of these you can describe, the more precise your quote will be.

  • Pieces: kameez and trousers, or a three-piece with a dupatta.
  • Neckline and sleeves: browse the neckline styles and sleeve styles and note the names you like.
  • Kameez length and cut: straight, A-line or flared, and where the hem should fall on you.
  • Trousers: shalwar, straight trousers, cigarette pants or palazzos; the trouser guide shows each one.
  • Lining and embroidery: whether a pale fabric needs lining, and whether you want delicate, detailed or statement embroidery added to the outfit.
  • Your date: an Eid, a wedding or the start of term, so it is taken into account from the first message.

Measuring when there is no appointment

Because there are no try-ons in the UK, your measurements carry the weight a tailor’s tape would otherwise carry. Enter them on the quote form in centimetres or inches, keep to one unit, and use the size guide to check where each one is taken. A friend holding the tape helps more than any app.

Already own a kameez that sits exactly as you like? You can send a sample kameez instead, and we take the measurements from it. Either way, the final numbers appear in your written quote, so you can check them before you approve anything.

What a UK quote covers

UK quotes are written in pounds sterling. Each one sets out the agreed design, fabric, measurements, total cost, delivery arrangements and production time, and the total already includes delivery to your address and any import duties, taxes and customs or courier fees, so there is nothing extra to pay when the parcel arrives. GOV.UK explains how VAT and duty work on goods sent from abroad if you want the background.

Payment is in full and in advance, by bank transfer, Wise or a card payment link. Production takes 5 to 7 working days from approval and full payment (with Stitching Only, from when your fabric reaches us), and shipping time is on top of that.

Getting started from anywhere in the UK

The UK page gathers everything about ordering from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and city pages such as London, Birmingham and Bradford add local shopping and weather notes. When you are ready, start a UK quote with your photos, measurements and notes, and we reply with any questions before the quote is issued.

Common questions

Can I order just one made-to-measure suit from the UK?

Yes. The minimum order is one suit, and single-piece orders such as one kurta or one dress are accepted too. Everything is quoted individually in pounds sterling.

Is a made-to-measure suit made in the UK?

No. Every outfit is cut and stitched in Pakistan and shipped to your UK address. There is no shop, studio or production anywhere in the UK, and the whole order is arranged online.

Do I pay customs charges when my suit arrives in the UK?

No. Your written quote already includes delivery and any import duties, taxes and customs or courier fees, so there is nothing extra to pay on delivery. If a courier ever asks for payment, contact us before paying anything.
