Under the arcades
The covered arcades, or Lauben, that line the old town’s streets keep the rain off but not the cold, and Bern winters are long. A full-sleeved kameez in khaddar or karandi, with a lining and enough ease for a jumper underneath, is the sensible choice from November to March. In late November the Zibelemärit, the onion market, fills the old town on a chilly Monday, exactly the kind of day for a warm suit.
Federal workdays and embassy evenings
For work in the federal administration or a ministry, a straight knee-length kurta with a round neckline and straight trousers reads as tidy and professional. With so many embassies in the city, there are also receptions and national day events; a calf-length kameez with delicate embroidery at the neckline and sleeves suits those. Can I order a single kurta for work?
Yes. The minimum order is one suit, and a single kurta with trousers is fine. Tell us how you dress for work and we agree the neckline, sleeves and length with you in writing.
Do you have anyone in Bern who can measure me?
No. We have no shop, tailor or measuring service in Bern. You take your own measurements, and we check them with you before anything is cut.
