Bergen · Norway
Made-to-measure clothing delivered to Bergen
Bergen is famous for its rain: the city sits between mountains and sea on Norway’s west coast, and wet days are part of life, though winters are milder than in Oslo. The Gilded Seam makes shalwar kameez, kurtas and co-ords to your own measurements in Pakistan and ships them to your address in Bergen. There is no shop or measuring service in the city; everything is agreed online and in writing.

Ordering from Bergen
Sizes, customs rules and sending fabric from Norway: ordering from Norway.
Made for Bergen rain
Because Bergen’s winters are wet rather than bitterly cold, a mid-weight fabric often beats the heaviest one: a lined cambric, linen blend or light khaddar kameez under a good raincoat covers most of the year, with karandi or marina for the colder weeks. Darker prints forgive a wet walk past Bryggen far better than pale plain fabric, and a trouser length that clears wet pavements helps too; our trouser styles guide compares the cuts.
Study, work and light summer evenings
The University of Bergen, NHH Norwegian School of Economics and Western Norway University of Applied Sciences bring students and staff from across the world, as do the city’s energy and maritime companies. A plain kurta with straight trousers suits the practical Norwegian way of dressing. In early summer, when the evenings stay light and a walk up Fløyen tempts, a lawn or cotton set comes out.
Ordering from Bergen
Most people here buy unstitched suits online from Pakistani brands or bring them back from trips, and Stitching Only turns yours into a finished outfit. Send photos first and wait until we confirm the fabric, the quantity and the arrangements, then post it to Pakistan by a tracked service with an accurate customs declaration. That is the first of two separate shipping stages; the second brings your finished outfit to Bergen. With Fabric + Stitching, we supply the fabric instead.
Norway is not in the EU, so EU import rules do not apply to your parcel; Norwegian rules do. The Norway page explains what Norwegian Customs, Tolletaten, says about import VAT, customs duty on clothing and carrier handling fees, and your quote includes all of them, along with delivery, so there is nothing extra to pay when your parcel arrives. Oslo and Trondheim order the same way; request a quote when you are ready.
Two ways to order
Our fabric, or yours
Both are made to your measurements in Pakistan. The minimum order is one suit, and we don’t offer free samples.
Fabric + Stitching
We supply the agreed fabric and make your outfit to your measurements. One parcel: the finished outfit shipped to you.
- Fabric agreed with you before cutting
- Minimum order one suit
- No need to send anything
Stitching Only
You supply suitable fabric, such as an unstitched suit, and we cut, stitch and finish it.
- Two shipping stages: your fabric to us in Pakistan, then the outfit to you
- Confirm suitability and quantity before sending
- Minimum order one suit
Do you have a shop in Bergen?
No. We have no shop, studio or measuring service in Bergen or anywhere in Norway. Everything is ordered online, made in Pakistan to the measurements you send, and delivered to your address.
Can my quote be in Norwegian kroner?
No. Customers in Norway choose euros, US dollars or pounds sterling, and the written quote is issued in that currency. If your account is in kroner, your bank converts the payment.
