The Gilded Seam: Custom Women’s Stitching

Stavanger · Norway

Made-to-measure clothing delivered to Stavanger

Stavanger is Norway’s energy city, home to oil and gas companies, offshore engineers and the families who have moved here from around the world for that work. The weather comes straight off the North Sea: winters are mild for Norway but wet, grey and very windy. The Gilded Seam makes shalwar kameez, kurtas and co-ords to your measurements in Pakistan and ships them to Stavanger. We have no shop or tailor in Norway; ordering happens online.

  • Made in Pakistan
  • Minimum order: one suit

Local notes

Ordering from Stavanger

Sizes, customs rules and sending fabric from Norway: ordering from Norway.

When the rain arrives sideways

Umbrellas rarely survive a Stavanger winter, so a shell jacket does the work and the kameez underneath needs to sit flat beneath it. A knee-length kurta in cambric or light khaddar, lined if the fabric is thin, with sleeves that do not bunch inside the jacket, is the everyday answer. Mid-tone or printed fabric hides rain spots far better than ivory or pale pastels. Hard frost is less of an issue here than wind and damp.

Offices, campus and the old town

Between the energy companies and the University of Stavanger, plenty of people here spend the week in offices and labs where clothes are practical and unfussy. A band-collar kurta and trousers made as a co-ord in a winter fabric suits that well. At weekends, a walk through the white wooden houses of Gamle Stavanger or a summer trip out to the Lysefjord calls for something lighter in lawn.

Sending an order to Stavanger

If you own an unstitched suit, send us photos before anything else; once we have confirmed the fabric, the quantity and the arrangements, you courier it to Pakistan with a tracked service and an accurate customs form. The finished outfit then comes back as a separate parcel. The page on stitching your fabric from Norway has the detail.

Norway sits outside the EU, so Norwegian rules apply to the parcel coming to you: the Norway page summarises what Tolletaten says. Your quote, in euros, US dollars or pounds sterling, already includes those charges and delivery. Bergen orders the same way; request a quote when ready.

Two ways to order

Our fabric, or yours

Both are made to your measurements in Pakistan. The minimum order is one suit, and we don’t offer free samples.

  • Fabric + Stitching

We supply the agreed fabric and make your outfit to your measurements. One parcel: the finished outfit shipped to you.

    • Fabric agreed with you before cutting
    • Minimum order one suit
    • No need to send anything
  • Stitching Only

You supply suitable fabric, such as an unstitched suit, and we cut, stitch and finish it.

    • Two shipping stages: your fabric to us in Pakistan, then the outfit to you
    • Confirm suitability and quantity before sending
    • Minimum order one suit
Can I order something for a work dinner?

Yes. Casual party wear is one of the things we make, from a simple kurta with a little embroidery to a fuller outfit with a dupatta. Tell us the occasion and the weather, and we suggest fabric and finish in your quote.

Do you have a shop in Stavanger?

No. There is no shop, studio or tailor of ours in Stavanger or anywhere in Norway. Everything is arranged online and made in Pakistan.
