Hong Kong has a long, steamy summer, a damp spring and a short, cool winter, and a wardrobe here has to handle all three, along with very cold air conditioning indoors. The Gilded Seam makes women’s kurtas, shalwar kameez, co-ords and Western pieces to your measurements in Pakistan and ships them to your flat on Hong Kong Island, in Kowloon or out in the New Territories. We have no shop or tailor in Hong Kong. Every detail is agreed with you in writing, and one outfit on its own is fine.

Ordering from Hong Kong

What can I order?

Clothing for women, made to measure: two-piece and three-piece shalwar kameez, kurtas and kameez, co-ords, Eid outfits, casual party wear, and Western dresses, skirts, tops and trousers. You can send a design or photo of your own, or take one of our designs and change it.

Can I order just one suit?

Yes. Our minimum is one suit, and a single kurta or dress is accepted too. We cannot send free samples, but your quote includes photos and descriptions of the fabric, and nothing is cut until you agree.

Can you provide the fabric?

Yes. Choose Fabric + Stitching and we find a fabric for your design in Pakistan, share photos of it with the quote and make the outfit from it once you approve. It comes as part of the outfit, not as fabric on its own.

Can I send my own fabric?

Yes, provided it is suitable for the design and there is enough. Send photos and lengths before you post anything, and we confirm the fabric and how to send it. You then courier it from Hong Kong to Pakistan, and the finished piece makes a second journey back to you.

How do I submit my measurements?

Enter them on the quote form, in either centimetres or inches. The size guide shows where each measurement is taken, and we check the numbers with you if anything looks unusual.

How are the design and fit agreed?

Before we cut, we agree the neckline, sleeves, lengths, trouser style, lining, any embroidery and your measurements with you in writing. The written quote repeats all of it for you to check before paying.

Where is the clothing made?

In Pakistan. Your outfit is cut, stitched, finished and checked there and then shipped to Hong Kong. We have no shop, studio or tailor in Hong Kong.

How long does it take, and what does shipping cost?

Making takes 5 to 7 working days from when your quote is approved and paid in full, or from when your fabric reaches us for Stitching Only. Shipping to Hong Kong is added on top and its timing varies, while its cost is shown in your written quote.

Who handles import charges?

We do. Delivery to your Hong Kong address and any import duties, taxes and customs or courier fees are included in your written quote, so you have nothing extra to pay at the door. If a courier asks you for money, contact us first.

How do I request a quote?

Open the Request a Custom Quote form from this page, which has Hong Kong selected, then add your district, the garment, your design and whether we supply the fabric. We agree the quote currency with you when you enquire, and you pay in full in advance by bank transfer, Wise or a card payment link.

Fabric, delivery and sizes in Hong Kong

Fabric for four quite different seasons

From roughly May to September, Hong Kong is hot and humid, with typhoon warnings and heavy rain. That is lawn weather: a loose lawn kurta stays cooler than almost anything else on a crowded pavement. Spring is warm and so damp that walls sweat, so choose cottons that dry quickly and avoid fabrics that mark easily.

The cooler, drier months from December to February call for a little more weight. Linen or cambric with a lining is usually enough, and for an evening out marina gives warmth without bulk. Tell us when you plan to wear the outfit and we suggest fabric to match in your quote.

Workwear for Central, Quarry Bay and Kowloon East

Office towers in Central, Admiralty, Quarry Bay and Kowloon East are famously cold inside, and the MTR is not much warmer. Full or three-quarter sleeves, a knee-length kurta and straight or cigarette trousers keep you comfortable from the platform to the meeting room. A band collar looks crisp at a desk, and if you start from one of our designs you can ask for the sleeves or length to change; see customising our designs in Hong Kong.

Bringing fabric from Sham Shui Po or from Pakistan

Sham Shui Po’s fabric streets sell cloth by the metre, and many customers also keep an unstitched suit or two from a trip to Pakistan. Either can be made up with Stitching Only. Before you send anything, measure the length and width of each piece and photograph it in daylight; we confirm that it suits your design and that there is enough. You arrange the courier from Hong Kong, declare the contents honestly and keep the tracking number. The finished outfit then comes back to you separately.

Hong Kong addresses and delivery

Hong Kong does not use postcodes, so a complete address matters. When your order goes ahead, give the flat and floor, the block and building name, the street and number, the district, and a phone number. For the first enquiry, the district is enough.
