The Gilded Seam: Custom Women’s Stitching

Delivered to South Africa

Made-to-Measure Clothing Delivered to South Africa

In South Africa, December is the height of summer and Eid can just as easily land in a Highveld frost as in a humid Durban afternoon. We make women’s clothing to your measurements in Pakistan and courier it to you, whether you live in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria or Gqeberha. Send a reference photo, start from one of our designs, or post us a suit you already own. A single outfit is welcome, there is no shop of ours in South Africa, and every detail is agreed with you in writing first.

Quick answers

Ordering from South Africa

The questions customers ask before their first order, answered for your country.

What can I order?

Made-to-measure women’s clothing: two-piece and three-piece shalwar kameez, kurtas and kameez, co-ords, Eid outfits, casual party wear and Western pieces such as dresses, skirts and trousers. You can send your own design or a reference photo, or customise one of our designs.

Can I order just one suit?

Yes. The minimum order is one suit, made to your own measurements. We do not send free samples, so the first thing you receive from us is the finished outfit. If you would like several pieces, list them on the same request and they are quoted together.

Can you provide the fabric?

Yes. With Fabric + Stitching we supply the fabric and make the outfit, so nothing has to leave South Africa. Your quote comes with photos and descriptions of the fabric we propose, and nothing is cut until you have agreed it in writing.

Can I send my own fabric?

Yes, if it suits the design and there is enough of it. With Stitching Only you courier your fabric from South Africa to us in Pakistan, and the finished outfit comes back to you as a second shipment. Send us photos before you book a courier, so we can confirm the fabric, the quantity and how to send it.

How do I submit my measurements?

Type them into the quote form in centimetres or inches, keeping to one unit throughout. Our size guide shows where each measurement is taken, and if you choose measurement guidance we can talk you through it on WhatsApp.

How are the design and fit agreed?

In writing, before cutting. We confirm the neckline, sleeves, lengths, trouser style, lining and any embroidery with you and check your measurements, and your written quote lists every agreed detail so you can read it through before you pay.

Where is the clothing made?

In Pakistan. Every outfit is cut, stitched, finished and checked there, then couriered to your address in South Africa. We have no shop, studio or tailor in South Africa.

How long does it take, and what does shipping cost?

Making takes 5 to 7 working days, counted from when you approve your quote and pay in full, or for Stitching Only, from when your fabric reaches us. Courier time to South Africa comes on top of that and varies, and the shipping cost is already in your written quote. If you need the outfit for a date, put it on the form.

Who handles import charges?

We do. Your written quote includes delivery to your South African address and any import duties, taxes and customs or courier fees on the parcel, so there is nothing more to pay when it arrives. If anyone asks you for payment at the door, contact us before paying.

How do I request a quote?

Fill in the Request a Custom Quote form from this page, with South Africa already selected. Add your design or choose one of ours, your city, and whether you want our fabric or your own. The currency of your quote is agreed with you when you enquire, and you pay in full by bank transfer, Wise or a card payment link once you approve it.

Two ways to start

Your design, or one of ours

Send a photo of the outfit you want, or customise one of our designs. Either way it is cut to your measurements and shipped to South Africa.

  • 01

    Have something in mind?

Upload a photo, a screenshot or a sketch. We’ll make it as a single piece, cut to your measurements, and agree every detail with you before we start.

  • 02

    Like one of ours?

Pick a design from our collection and change what you want: neckline, sleeves, length or lining. Same care, your version.

  • Single pieces welcome

One outfit is enough. No minimum bundle.

  • Full payment in advance

You pay once you’ve approved your quote, before we cut anything.

  • 5 to 7 working days to make

Production time only. Shipping is added on top.

  • Delivered worldwide

Delivery and import charges are included in your quote.

Two ways to order

Our fabric, or yours

Both are made to your measurements. The minimum order is one suit, and we don’t offer free samples.

  • Fabric + Stitching

We supply the agreed fabric and make your outfit to your measurements. One parcel: the finished outfit shipped to you.

    • Fabric agreed with you before cutting
    • Minimum order one suit
    • No need to send anything
  • Stitching Only

You supply suitable fabric, such as an unstitched suit, and we cut, stitch and finish it.

    • Two shipping stages: your fabric to us in Pakistan, then the outfit to you
    • Confirm suitability and quantity before sending
    • Minimum order one suit

In detail

Fabric, delivery and sizes in South Africa

A year that runs the other way

Most fabric advice is written for the Northern Hemisphere, so turn it round. Summer here runs from about December to February and winter from June to August, which means a lawn suit is for the end-of-year holidays and a khaddar or karandi set is for the middle of the year. Eid moves about eleven days earlier each year, so check which season yours falls in before you choose a fabric.

The regions differ too. Johannesburg and Pretoria have dry, sunny winters with cold nights and summer afternoon storms; Cape Town gets its rain in winter and its wind in summer; Durban stays warm and humid for much of the year. Tell us where you live and we will suggest a lining and sleeve length to match.

Delivery and the price you see

The finished outfit is couriered from Pakistan to your door. Your written quote includes delivery and any import duties, taxes and customs or courier fees, so the total you approve is the total you pay. We do not give tax advice and have not described South Africa’s customs rules here, because we have no official source for them on file.

Courier time is separate from the 5 to 7 working days of making, and it varies, so add the two together when you plan. Our page on worldwide delivery explains how the two stages fit.

Posting a suit from South Africa

For Stitching Only, photograph every piece in daylight and send the pictures with your measurements. Once we have confirmed the fabric is suitable and long enough, and agreed how it should travel, you book the courier yourself, describe the contents honestly on the customs form and keep the tracking number. The finished outfit returns as a separate shipment.

If posting fabric abroad feels like a bother, choose Fabric + Stitching and we source it for you in Pakistan instead.

Cities we write about

We have pages for Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria and Gqeberha, but we deliver to any address in the country. Give your street address, suburb, postal code and any complex or unit number, plus a mobile number the courier can call.

Do you have a shop or tailor in South Africa?

No. We have no shop, studio or tailor anywhere in South Africa. You order online or on WhatsApp, and the outfit is made in Pakistan and couriered to you.

Which currency will my quote be in?

We agree the currency with you when you first enquire, and your written quote is issued in it. Payment is made in full, in advance, by bank transfer, Wise or a card payment link.

Can I order an outfit for Diwali or for a wedding I am attending?

Yes. Casual party wear and Eid outfits with embroidery, lace or borders are part of what we make, for guests rather than for brides. Give us the date when you enquire so there is time to agree the design, make it and ship it.
