The Gilded Seam: Custom Women’s Stitching

Delivered to Canada

Made-to-Measure Clothing Delivered to Canada

A good tailor for a shalwar kameez is easy to find in some Canadian neighbourhoods and almost impossible in others, and in a long winter nobody wants extra trips across town. The Gilded Seam cuts and stitches women’s clothing to your measurements in Pakistan and couriers the finished outfit to your address anywhere in Canada, from the Greater Toronto Area and Montreal to the Prairies and the West Coast. You can send your own design, start from one of ours, or have an unstitched suit you already own made up. One outfit is enough to order, and every detail is agreed in writing first.

Quick answers

Ordering from Canada

The questions customers ask before their first order, answered for your country.

What can I order?

Made-to-measure women’s clothing: two-piece and three-piece shalwar kameez, kurtas and kameez, co-ords, Eid outfits, casual party wear and Western pieces such as dresses, skirts, tops and trousers. Send your own design or a reference photo, or customise one of our designs, and embroidery, lace or borders can be added to the outfit we stitch.

Can I order just one suit?

Yes. The minimum order is one suit, made to your own measurements, and a single piece such as a kurta is welcome too. We do not offer free samples, so the first parcel you receive from us is your finished outfit. Ordering several pieces for Eid or a wedding you are attending? Put them in one enquiry and we quote them together.

Can you provide the fabric?

Yes. With Fabric + Stitching we supply the fabric and make the outfit, so nothing has to leave Canada. We share photos and descriptions of the fabric we suggest with your quote, and it is agreed with you in writing before we cut. We do not sell fabric on its own.

Can I send my own fabric?

Yes, subject to fabric suitability and sufficient quantity. With Stitching Only you send your fabric from Canada to us in Pakistan, and the finished outfit comes back to you as a second, separate shipment. Send us daylight photos before you post anything, so we can confirm the fabric, that there is enough of it, and how to send it.

How do I submit my measurements?

Type them into the quote form in centimetres or inches. Canada is officially metric, but plenty of people still think in inches for body measurements, and either is fine as long as you keep to one unit. The size guide shows where each one is taken, and you can ask for measurement guidance if you would like help.

How are the design and fit agreed?

In writing, before anything is cut. We check your measurements and go through the neckline, sleeves, kameez length, trouser style, lining and any embroidery with you, and your written quote lists every agreed detail so you can check it before you pay.

Where is the clothing made?

In Pakistan. Each outfit is cut, stitched and finished there and then couriered to Canada. We have no shop, studio or tailor anywhere in Canada, so everything is arranged online.

How long does it take, and what does shipping cost?

Making takes 5 to 7 working days, counted from when your quote is approved and paid in full, or with Stitching Only, from when your fabric reaches us. Courier time to Canada comes on top and varies with where you live, and the shipping cost is already in your written quote. Put your date on the form if you are ordering for Eid or an event.

Who handles import charges?

We do. Your written quote includes delivery to your Canadian address and any import duties, taxes and customs or courier fees, so there is nothing extra to pay when the parcel arrives. If a courier ever asks you for money, contact us before paying.

How do I request a quote?

Use the Request a Custom Quote form from this page, with Canada already selected. The first enquiry needs only your name, email, city, the garment, quantity, service option, design images and notes. The currency of your quote is agreed with you when you enquire, and you pay in full once you approve it, by bank transfer, Wise or a card payment link.

Two ways to start

Your design, or one of ours

Send a photo of the outfit you want, or customise one of our designs. Either way it is cut to your measurements and shipped to Canada.

  • 01

    Have something in mind?

Upload a photo, a screenshot or a sketch. We’ll make it as a single piece, cut to your measurements, and agree every detail with you before we start.

  • 02

    Like one of ours?

Pick a design from our collection and change what you want: neckline, sleeves, length or lining. Same care, your version.

  • Single pieces welcome

One outfit is enough. No minimum bundle.

  • Full payment in advance

You pay once you’ve approved your quote, before we cut anything.

  • 5 to 7 working days to make

Production time only. Shipping is added on top.

  • Delivered worldwide

Delivery and import charges are included in your quote.

Two ways to order

Our fabric, or yours

Both are made to your measurements. The minimum order is one suit, and we don’t offer free samples.

  • Fabric + Stitching

We supply the agreed fabric and make your outfit to your measurements. One parcel: the finished outfit shipped to you.

    • Fabric agreed with you before cutting
    • Minimum order one suit
    • No need to send anything
  • Stitching Only

You supply suitable fabric, such as an unstitched suit, and we cut, stitch and finish it.

    • Two shipping stages: your fabric to us in Pakistan, then the outfit to you
    • Confirm suitability and quantity before sending
    • Minimum order one suit

In detail

Fabric, delivery and sizes in Canada

Sending an unstitched suit from Canada

Many women in Canada already own the fabric: a lawn pack picked up on Gerrard Street East in Toronto, dress material from Surrey or the Punjabi Market on Main Street in Vancouver, or a suit brought back in a suitcase after a trip to Pakistan. Stitching Only turns it into a finished outfit.

Before anything goes in the post, send us photos and the lengths so we can confirm the fabric suits your design, that there is enough of it, and how to send it. You then book the shipment yourself, with Canada Post or a courier of your choice:

  • Choose a tracked service and keep the tracking number until we confirm the parcel has arrived.
  • Fill in the customs form honestly, describing the contents plainly, for example “unstitched cotton suit, three pieces”, with their real value.
  • Put a note with your name and quote reference inside, so your fabric is matched to your order straight away.

Delivery to Canada and what the quote covers

Your outfit is shipped from Pakistan to your address in Canada. The written quote includes delivery and any import duties, taxes and customs or courier fees on the parcel, so you are not asked for anything at the door. We have not described Canada’s own customs rules on this page, and we do not give tax advice.

The 5 to 7 working days we take to make your outfit are separate from the courier’s time, so allow for both. Our page on processing and worldwide delivery explains how the two fit together, and how it works covers each stage from enquiry to delivery.

Dressing for a Canadian year

A Canadian wardrobe has to stretch from humid summer afternoons to deep cold. For June to August, lawn and cambric breathe well. From late autumn, khaddar, karandi and marina are warmer, a lining helps under a parka, and full sleeves are worth asking for. Indoor heating dries the air, so soft natural fibres tend to feel better than stiff synthetics.

For the next few years Eid al-Fitr falls in late winter, which suits a warmer fabric or velvet for the evening. You can start from one of our designs and change the sleeves, length or lining for the season, or send a design of your own.

Addresses and city pages

Give your full street address, any unit or apartment number, the buzzer code if your building has one, and your postal code in the A1A 1A1 format, plus a phone number you answer. For the first enquiry your city is enough; the full address is taken when your order goes ahead.

Our city pages look at local weather, work and occasions: in Ontario, Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Ottawa and Kitchener; in Quebec, Montreal and Quebec City; on the Prairies, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon and Winnipeg; and in British Columbia, Vancouver, Surrey and Victoria.

Do you have a tailor or showroom in Canada?

No. There is no shop, studio, showroom or tailor of ours in Canada. You order online, your measurements and design are agreed in writing, and the outfit is made in Pakistan and couriered to your address.

Which currency will my quote be in?

The currency is agreed with you when you enquire, and your written quote is then issued as one total in it. Payment is in full and in advance, by bank transfer, Wise or a card payment link, before anything is made.

Can you make a warm outfit for winter?

Yes. Ask for khaddar, karandi or marina, add a lining and choose full sleeves, and say on the form that the outfit is for a Canadian winter. What works best for your design is confirmed in your written quote.
