Fancy work and embellishment in Canada

In Canada, an outfit with embroidery often has to earn its place: it is worn to Eid prayers in a cold mosque car park, a Diwali dinner, a wedding you are attending as a guest, or a community event in a school gym. Fancy work from The Gilded Seam means embroidery, lace and borders added to the outfit we stitch for you, at the level you choose, made in Pakistan and couriered to your address.

Choosing a level that suits the occasion

Delicate work at the neckline or sleeves suits an office Eid lunch or a dinner with friends. Detailed work across the neckline, sleeves and hem is right for a family celebration or a festival evening. Statement work is bolder and meant for Eid and parties, and still made as festive wear rather than for a bride.

A reference photo helps us understand the look, and your written quote confirms what is possible on your fabric and design.

Embellishment and Canadian winters

When Eid or a party falls in winter, much of the outfit spends the evening under a coat. Work placed at the neckline and front shows when your coat is open, while a heavily worked hem may be hidden under a long parka or brushed by boots. Embroidery on a warm fabric such as karandi or velvet looks rich in low winter light. In summer, lighter work on lawn keeps the outfit cool.

Lace and borders also have a practical side: a border at the hem or on the dupatta gives a plain fabric a finished edge without much weight. An embroidered front panel on a long kameez, or a fine border along the edges of a flared one, are two quite different ways to use it.

How it works

Fancy work step by step

  1. 01

    Choose the level

On the quote form, pick delicate (neckline or sleeves), detailed (neckline, sleeves and hem), statement (bolder work for Eid and parties), or ask us to advise.

  2. 02

    Show us the look

Add a reference photo of the embroidery, lace or border you like. What is possible on your fabric and design is confirmed in your written quote.

  3. 03

    Agreed before cutting

The placement and amount of embellishment are agreed in writing with the rest of the design, and quoted as part of the outfit.

  4. 04

The work is done in Pakistan as part of stitching your outfit, which is then shipped to you. We do not embroider garments on their own.

Can you embroider a kurta I already own?

No. Embroidery, lace and borders are only added to an outfit we are stitching for you. We do not embroider finished garments on their own.

Can I choose where the embroidery goes?

Yes. Tell us the placement you want and add a photo if you have one. The placement and amount are agreed in writing with the rest of the design.
