Two seasons, two wardrobes
The valley traps cold in winter and heat in summer, so Grenoble needs both ends of the fabric range. From November to March, a khaddar or karandi kameez with full sleeves and a lining, roomy enough for a thermal layer, makes a real difference; our winter fabrics guide compares the options. In July and August the city can be stifling, and loose lawn or linen with a wide trouser is far more comfortable.
Science, study and mountain weekends
With Université Grenoble Alpes and the research institutes on the Presqu’île, lab days call for practical clothes: a straight kurta that sits clear of the bench, sleeves that stay out of the way and trousers you can move in. Ask for cigarette or straight trousers and elbow sleeves. For a weekend in the mountains, keep the kurta short.
