Lavapiés and beyond
Lavapiés is Madrid’s most international neighbourhood, with Bangladeshi and Indian grocers, restaurants and small shops in the streets around the Plaza de Lavapiés. Fabric you pick up there, or bring back from Lahore or Dhaka, can become a finished outfit with Stitching Only.
Send daylight photos first and wait until we confirm the fabric, the quantity and the arrangements, then post it to Pakistan by a tracked service with an accurate customs declaration. The finished outfit reaches Madrid as a separate shipment, with delivery and any IVA or EU customs duty included in your quote, and the Spain page explains the rules.
Summer: lawn, loose cuts and cotton linings
Madrid summers are hot and very dry, and synthetic fabric is miserable in them. Lawn, voile and fine cotton are the answer, cut with room for air to move: an A-line kameez, a loose straight kurta, or a shalwar rather than a fitted trouser. Winter: yes, you need warmer pieces
Madrid is one of Europe’s highest capitals, on the central plateau, and winter mornings can be close to freezing even when the afternoon is sunny. Madrileños sum it up as “nueve meses de invierno y tres de infierno”: nine months of winter and three of hell. What is the best fabric for a Madrid summer?
Pure cotton lawn or voile, in a loose cut with three-quarter or elbow sleeves. Avoid polyester linings; if the fabric is sheer, ask for a cotton lining instead.
Is there anywhere in Madrid I can be measured?
No. There is no shop, studio or measuring service in Madrid. You measure at home in centimetres or inches using the size guide, and we agree the numbers with you in writing before anything is cut.
Can you choose the fabric for me?
Yes. With Fabric + Stitching, describe the colours and feel you want, light for August or warmer for January, and the fabric is agreed in writing in your quote. Then nothing needs posting from Madrid.
