Quick answers

Ordering from Spain

The questions customers ask before their first order, answered for your country.

What can I order?

Made-to-measure women’s clothing, cut and stitched to your own measurements: three-piece and two-piece shalwar kameez, kurtas and kameez, co-ords, Eid outfits, casual party wear and Western pieces such as dresses, skirts, tops and trousers. In Spain that often means a loose lawn suit for a long summer, a linen co-ord for a humid evening in Barcelona, or a warmer kameez for a cold Madrid morning.

Can I order just one suit?

Yes. Our minimum order is one suit, made to your agreed measurements and design. There are no free samples, so if you are unsure about a fabric, send photos and questions with your quote request and we answer them before you decide. A single lawn suit for the summer, delivered to one address in Valencia, is a perfectly normal order.

Can you provide the fabric?

Yes. With Fabric + Stitching, we supply the agreed fabric and make the outfit, so nothing has to be posted from Spain. Tell us the colour, weight and occasion, such as a breathable lawn for July in Seville or a cambric for a Madrid winter, and the fabric is agreed with you in writing before cutting.

Can I send my own fabric?

Yes, subject to fabric suitability and sufficient quantity. This is our Stitching Only service: a suit you bought in El Raval or brought back from Pakistan travels from Spain to us, and the finished garment is then shipped to you, so there are two separate shipping stages. Please contact us to confirm the fabric, the quantity and the sending arrangements before you post anything.

How do I submit my measurements?

Enter them on the quote form, in centimetres or inches. Centimetres suit a Spanish tape measure, though inches are accepted too; just say which you used. A Spanish size such as a 38 is not a UK size and varies between brands, so it cannot replace your own bust, sleeve and kameez length measurements.

How are the design and fit agreed?

In writing, before any cutting starts. The quote sets out the neckline, sleeves, lengths, trouser style and lining, and nothing is cut until you agree them. Because nobody measures you or tries the outfit on you in Spain, tell us how you like a kameez to sit, for example cut looser through the body for the summer heat.

Where is the clothing made?

Our garments are made in Pakistan and shipped internationally. There is no production, shop or studio in Spain; your outfit is cut, stitched and finished in Pakistan and then sent to your address, whether that is a flat in Madrid or a house on the coast.

How are production time and shipping costs confirmed?

Both are confirmed in your written quote, before you commit to anything. We do not publish fixed timings or promise delivery dates, so if you need an outfit for Eid, a family celebration or the start of summer, give us the date when you ask and the quote shows whether it looks realistic for delivery to Spain.

Who handles import charges?

We do. Your written quote includes delivery to your address in Spain and any import duties, taxes and customs fees there, so there is nothing extra to pay when your parcel arrives. Spain is in the EU, where all goods imported from outside the EU are subject to VAT (IVA in Spain) and a new temporary flat EU customs duty applies to low-value parcels; both are covered in your quote.

How do I request a quote?

Use the Request a Custom Quote form at /quote?country=spain, which opens with Spain already selected. Add your city, the garment, the quantity, Fabric + Stitching or Stitching Only, your measurements and photos of designs you like, and we reply with a written quote. Your full delivery address is only needed once the order goes ahead.

Two ways to order

Our fabric, or yours

Both are made to your measurements. The minimum order is one suit, and we don’t offer free samples.

  • Fabric + Stitching

We supply the agreed fabric and make your outfit to your measurements. One parcel: the finished outfit shipped to you.

    • Fabric agreed with you before cutting
    • Minimum order one suit
    • No need to send anything
  • Stitching Only

You supply suitable fabric, such as an unstitched suit, and we cut, stitch and finish it.

    • Two shipping stages: your fabric to us in Pakistan, then the outfit to you
    • Confirm suitability and quantity before sending
    • Minimum order one suit

Stitching Only from Spain: from El Raval to Pakistan

Spain’s best-known places for Pakistani and South Asian shopping are in its two biggest cities. In Barcelona, the streets around the Rambla del Raval and Carrer de l’Hospital in El Raval have Pakistani grocers, restaurants and clothing shops; in Madrid, Lavapiés, around the Plaza de Lavapiés, is the city’s most international neighbourhood, with Bangladeshi and Indian shops. A suit from either, a length of cotton, or an unstitched three-piece brought back from a family trip is exactly what our unstitched suit stitching service is for.

Contact us before you post anything. Send daylight photos of every piece (our guide to photographing fabric for a quote shows how) so we can confirm the fabric suits the design and that there is enough of it. Once the arrangements are agreed, send the parcel to Pakistan by a tracked international service, with a customs declaration that describes the contents accurately and states an honest value; how to post your fabric for stitching covers the packing.

That is the first of two shipping stages. The finished outfit then travels to you in Spain as a separate shipment, and that is the parcel that goes through Spanish customs, with its delivery and any import charges included in your quote. If you would rather not post anything at all, choose Fabric + Stitching and we supply the fabric.

Delivery to Spain: IVA, customs duty and courier fees

Your outfit is shipped from Pakistan to your address in Spain, and production time, the delivery method and its cost are set out in your written quote, which also includes any import duties, taxes and customs or courier fees. Because the parcel comes from outside the EU, it passes through Spanish customs, the responsibility of the Agencia Tributaria and its customs department, Aduanas, and the rules below are what apply to it.

According to the European Commission, since 1 July 2021 all goods imported into the EU have been subject to VAT, which in Spain is IVA; it is paid either through the seller’s registration in the EU’s Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS) or when the parcel is imported. On top of that, from 1 July 2026 until 1 July 2028 the EU applies a temporary €3 customs duty for each category of goods on low-value consignments worth up to €150 from outside the EU, and the previous €150 duty exemption has been abolished, as the Council of the EU confirmed. The courier that clears the parcel may also add a handling fee.

With us, the IVA, the flat EU duty and any courier handling fee are already included in your quote, so there is nothing extra to pay when your parcel arrives. If a courier ever asks you for payment on delivery, contact us before paying anything. We do not give tax advice; the Europe overview and our guide to ordering from Europe cover the same rules across the EU.

Spanish sizes, centimetres and the words people search for

Spanish labels use the continental numbering (36, 38, 40 and so on), which is a different scale from UK sizes, and the same number can fit quite differently from one high-street brand to the next. A label also says nothing about the length of your arms or where a kameez should fall, which is why we never work from one. Measure in centimetres with the size guide and our guide to measuring for a shalwar kameez; if your tape is in inches, that works too. UK, EU and US dress sizes for a kameez explains why labels mislead.

In Spanish, made to measure is a medida, a seamstress is a costurera and a dressmaker a modista, so people looking for this kind of service in Spain often search for ropa pakistaní a medida or a costurera a medida. In Catalonia you will also see a mida, the Catalan for made to measure. The outfit itself is usually still called a salwar kameez or shalwar kameez, while a kurta is often sold in Spanish shops as a túnica.

Heat, lawn and cities from Madrid to Seville

Spain’s summers are long and hot almost everywhere, which is exactly what lawn and fine cotton are for: a loose straight or A-line kameez, three-quarter or elbow sleeves, side slits cut high enough to walk easily, and a cotton lining only where a pale print is sheer. The Guadalquivir valley around Seville and Córdoba is known for some of the fiercest summer heat in Europe, so the lightest lawn and voile make most sense there. Our guide to summer outfits for hot weather has more ideas.

Winters differ more than visitors expect. Madrid sits high on the central plateau and its winter mornings can be close to freezing, so a cambric or light khaddar kameez earns its place there, while Barcelona and the Mediterranean coast, from Valencia down to Málaga, stay mild and humid, and the green north around Bilbao is cooler and wetter. Our winter fabrics guide compares the warmer options.

For Eid, start early and tell us your date, especially with Stitching Only, where fabric travels to Pakistan before the finished outfit travels to you; the Eid outfit timeline helps you plan. France and Italy have their own pages, and when you are ready you can request a quote for Spain.

FAQ

More questions from Spain

Measuring guide: how to measure. The whole process: how ordering works.

Do you have a shop or tailor in Madrid or Barcelona?

No. There is no shop, studio or tailor anywhere in Spain, and nobody measures you in person. Everything is ordered online: you send your measurements, we agree the design with you in writing, and your outfit is made in Pakistan and delivered to your address.

What is the best fabric for a Spanish summer?

Pure cotton lawn or voile, cut loose through the body with three-quarter or elbow sleeves. Avoid synthetic linings; if the fabric is sheer, ask for a cotton lining instead, and the details are agreed in your written quote.

Can I just give you my Spanish size?

Please send measurements instead. Spanish sizes run on a different scale from UK sizes and vary between brands, so a label tells us far less than a tape measure. The size guide shows every measurement we need, in centimetres or inches.
