The Gilded Seam: Custom Women’s Stitching

Bolton · England

Made-to-measure clothing delivered to Bolton

Samuel Crompton invented the spinning mule in Bolton in 1779, and the town grew into one of the great cotton-spinning centres of Lancashire. Today it has large Indian and Pakistani communities, so Indian dress material and Pakistani lawn packs sit side by side in many wardrobes. The Gilded Seam cuts and stitches both to your measurements in Pakistan and delivers the finished outfit to your Bolton address.

Local notes

Ordering from Bolton

Sizes, customs rules and sending fabric from the UK: ordering from the UK.

Between Manchester and Blackburn

Bolton is on the railway line between Manchester and Blackburn, so a suit here might come from Wilmslow Road in Rusholme, from a Cheetham Hill wholesaler, from a brand’s UK website or from a family trip to Pakistan or India. Indian dress material usually has the neck embroidery already worked into the top length; Pakistani packs come as two-piece or three-piece sets. Both can be stitched with Stitching Only, subject to fabric suitability and sufficient quantity.

Under Winter Hill

Bolton lies below the West Pennine Moors, with Winter Hill and its transmitter mast on the skyline, and plenty of wet weather comes in over the hills. Straight trousers at ankle length stay clear of puddles, and a lined cambric or khaddar kameez is more comfortable than lawn for much of the year. Our guide to whether a kameez needs lining helps you decide.

Ordering from Bolton

Before posting anything, send us daylight photos through the quote form, and we confirm the fabric is suitable, that there is enough and how to send it. Stitching Only has two separate shipping stages: your fabric goes to Pakistan, then the finished outfit comes to your BL postcode, from Farnworth to Horwich. With Fabric + Stitching we supply the fabric instead.

Your written quote confirms the design, production time and shipping cost, and includes any import duties and taxes, so there is nothing extra to pay when the parcel arrives; our UK page sets out what GOV.UK says.

Two ways to order

Our fabric, or yours

Both are made to your measurements in Pakistan. The minimum order is one suit, and we don’t offer free samples.

  • Fabric + Stitching

We supply the agreed fabric and make your outfit to your measurements. One parcel: the finished outfit shipped to you.

    • Fabric agreed with you before cutting
    • Minimum order one suit
    • No need to send anything
  • Stitching Only

You supply suitable fabric, such as an unstitched suit, and we cut, stitch and finish it.

    • Two shipping stages: your fabric to us in Pakistan, then the outfit to you
    • Confirm suitability and quantity before sending
    • Minimum order one suit
Do you have a shop in Bolton?

No. There is no shop, studio or showroom in Bolton or anywhere else in the UK. Everything is ordered online, made in Pakistan and delivered to your address.

Should I wash my fabric before sending it?

Not necessarily, but tell us either way. Some cotton and khaddar shrink a little on the first wash, so say on the form whether the fabric has been washed, and it is taken into account before the design is agreed in writing.
