Quick answers

Ordering from Italy

The questions customers ask before their first order, answered for your country.

What can I order?

You can order made-to-measure women’s clothing: three-piece and two-piece shalwar kameez, kurtas and kameez, co-ords, Eid outfits, casual party wear and Western pieces such as dresses, skirts, tops and trousers. In Italy that might mean a lawn suit for a hot Roman August, a khaddar set for a foggy winter on the Lombard plain, or a plain kurta and trousers for the office in Milan.

Can I order just one suit?

Yes. Our minimum order is one suit, made to your agreed measurements and design. There are no free samples, so if you are unsure about a fabric, send photos and questions with your quote request and we answer them before you decide. You can also order several outfits together, for example coordinated Eid suits for you and your sisters, with separate measurements for each person.

Can you provide the fabric?

Yes. With Fabric + Stitching, we supply the agreed fabric and make the outfit, so nothing has to be posted from Italy. Tell us the colour, weight and occasion, such as a light lawn for summer or a warmer khaddar for a northern Italian winter, and the fabric is agreed with you in writing before cutting.

Can I send my own fabric?

Yes, subject to fabric suitability and sufficient quantity. This is our Stitching Only service: your unstitched suit or fabric travels from Italy to us in Pakistan, and the finished garment is then shipped to you, so there are two separate shipping stages. Please contact us to confirm the fabric, the quantity and the sending arrangements before you post anything.

How do I submit my measurements?

You enter your measurements on the quote form, in centimetres or inches. Centimetres are the natural choice in Italy, but inches are accepted too; just tell us which you used. An Italian size label such as a 42 cannot replace measurements, because it says nothing about your sleeve length or where a kameez should fall.

How are the design and fit agreed?

Design details and measurements are agreed with you in writing before anything is cut. The quote sets out the neckline, sleeves, lengths, trouser style and lining, and because nobody measures you or tries the outfit on you in person, it helps to note how you like a kameez to sit, for example cut looser for a Roman summer.

Where is the clothing made?

Our garments are made in Pakistan and shipped internationally. There is no production, shop or studio in Italy; your outfit is cut, stitched and finished in Pakistan and then sent to your address in Italy.

How are production time and shipping costs confirmed?

Production time and shipping costs are confirmed in your written quote, before you commit to anything. We do not publish fixed timings or promise delivery dates, so if you need an outfit for Eid or a family celebration, tell us the date when you ask and the quote shows whether it looks realistic for delivery to Italy.

Who handles import charges?

We do. Your written quote includes delivery to your address in Italy and any import duties, taxes and customs fees there, so there is nothing extra to pay when your parcel arrives. Italy is in the EU, where all goods imported from outside the EU are subject to VAT (IVA in Italy) and a temporary flat EU customs duty now applies to low-value parcels; both are covered in your quote.

How do I request a quote?

Use the Request a Custom Quote form at /quote?country=italy, which opens with Italy already selected. Add your city, the garment, the quantity, Fabric + Stitching or Stitching Only, and photos of designs you like; your full delivery address is only needed once the order goes ahead.

Two ways to order

Our fabric, or yours

Both are made to your measurements. The minimum order is one suit, and we don’t offer free samples.

  • Fabric + Stitching

We supply the agreed fabric and make your outfit to your measurements. One parcel: the finished outfit shipped to you.

    • Fabric agreed with you before cutting
    • Minimum order one suit
    • No need to send anything
  • Stitching Only

You supply suitable fabric, such as an unstitched suit, and we cut, stitch and finish it.

    • Two shipping stages: your fabric to us in Pakistan, then the outfit to you
    • Confirm suitability and quantity before sending
    • Minimum order one suit

Stitching Only from Italy: sending your fabric to Pakistan

If you already have an unstitched suit, whether it came back in a suitcase after a trip to Pakistan, arrived from an online order or was bought in the South Asian shops around Piazza Vittorio in Rome’s Esquilino district, our Stitching Only service turns it into a finished outfit cut to your measurements.

Contact us before you post anything. Send daylight photos of every piece (our guide to photographing fabric for a quote shows how) so we can confirm the fabric suits the design and that there is enough of it. Once the arrangements are agreed, send the parcel to Pakistan by a tracked international service, with a customs declaration that describes the contents accurately, for example “unstitched cotton suit fabric, three pieces”, and states an honest value. Our guide on how to post your fabric covers the packing.

The finished outfit then travels to you as a separate shipment, the second of the two stages, with its delivery and any import charges included in your quote. If you would rather not post anything at all, choose Fabric + Stitching and we supply the fabric.

Delivery to Italy: IVA, customs duty and courier fees

Your outfit is shipped from Pakistan to your address in Italy, and the delivery method and its cost are set out in your written quote, which also includes any import duties, taxes and customs or courier fees. Because the parcel comes from outside the EU, it passes through Italian customs, run by l’Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli, and the rules below are what apply to it.

The European Commission explains that since 1 July 2021 all goods imported into the EU are subject to VAT, which in Italy is IVA; it is paid either through the seller’s registration in the EU’s Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS) or when the parcel is imported. From 1 July 2026 the EU also applies a temporary €3 customs duty for each category of goods on low-value parcels worth up to €150 from outside the EU, until 1 July 2028, replacing the previous €150 duty exemption, as the Council of the EU confirmed. The courier that clears the parcel may add a handling fee of its own.

With us, the IVA, the flat EU duty and any courier handling fee are already included in your quote, so there is nothing extra to pay when your parcel arrives. If a courier ever asks you for payment on delivery, contact us before paying anything. We do not give tax advice; the Europe overview and our guide to ordering from Europe cover the same rules across the EU.

Italian sizes, centimetres and the words people search for

Italian size labels (taglie) are numbered differently from French, German and UK sizes, and they vary from brand to brand, so an Italian 42 tells us very little about how a kameez should sit on you. That is why we never work from a size label. Measure in centimetres with the size guide and our guide to measuring for a shalwar kameez; if your tape is in inches, that works too. Our dress size comparison explains why labels mislead.

In Italian, a dressmaker is a sarta and made to measure is su misura, so people looking for this kind of service in Italy often search for a sarta su misura or abiti pakistani su misura. The outfit itself is usually still called a shalwar kameez, while a kurta is often sold in Italian shops as a tunica.

From Milan to Rome: cities, climate and Eid

We have written guides for Milan, Rome, Brescia, Bologna, Florence and Turin, as well as Naples, Verona, Bergamo and Genoa, and ordering works in the same way from anywhere else in Italy.

Italy’s climate splits the wardrobe in two. Summers are hot almost everywhere, which calls for lawn and cotton cut loose (summer outfits for hot weather). Winters in the north, across the Po valley and at the foot of the Alps, are cold and damp, and that is when khaddar, karandi and marina earn their place (winter fabrics compared).

For Eid, start early and tell us your date, because Stitching Only means fabric travelling to Pakistan and the finished outfit travelling to you. The Eid outfit timeline and our guide to ordering made to measure from Italy help you plan, and when you are ready you can request a quote for Italy.

FAQ

More questions from Italy

Measuring guide: how to measure. The whole process: how ordering works.

Do you have a shop or tailor in Italy?

No. There is no shop, studio or tailor in Italy, and nobody measures you in person. Everything is ordered online: you send your measurements, we agree the design with you in writing, and your outfit is made in Pakistan and delivered to your address in Italy.

I wear an Italian 42. Can I just give you that size?

Please give measurements instead. Italian sizes are numbered differently from French, German and UK sizes and vary between brands, so a size label tells us far less than a tape measure. The size guide shows every measurement we need, in centimetres or inches.

Do I need a customs declaration to send fabric from Italy to Pakistan?

Yes. Pakistan is outside the EU, so a parcel from Italy to Pakistan needs a customs declaration. Describe the contents accurately, give an honest value and use a tracked service, and only post it once we have confirmed the fabric, quantity and arrangements with you.
